Not that I'm aware of. -
I would search for Fujitsu reviews on the usual PC magazines web sites, ePinions.com and CNET.com

I personally know 6 people who have purchased Sony VAIO laptops and regretted it. The support leaves a lot to be desired. They are very stylish, light and awesome looking. But if you ever need support, good luck. Whatever laptop you finally decide on make sure to spend a few extra bucks for a warranty.

Never ever buy a Sony laptop!!!

Dell Latitude D610 Laptop for $998 after rebate. It's not the lightest but it does include an optical drive and it's a Latitude.

HOT! Dell Ultrasharp 2005FPW 20" LCD - $471.75

Good observation. LCD deals are fairly common (although $471 is the lowest I have seen the 2005FPW). -

You should post here more often :) Which of those two would you use more often and get more enjoyment out of? Also do you have a good video card with DVI? I absolutely love my 2005FPW. No dead pixel, super bright and beautiful. for widescreen LCD -

Nooooooooooooo I paid $506 for mine -
You're right I forgot about that requirement, good catch. External optical drives are a total pain in the ass, no thanks!

Dell Latitude's are rumored to have better build quality but I haven't heard of any major complaints regarding the Dell Inspiron 700m. Dell Small Business has several Latitude laptops starting at 2.5 pounds but the standard models have a lower resolution 12.1" LCD display vs the 700m.

What law school is your daughter attending? I ask because most colleges offer a student discount on laptops from Apple, IBM, Dell and other manufacturers. I would recommend contacting their college bookstore to see if any discounts are available. Since size and weight are your primary concern I would look at the IBM ThinkPad X series. Be prepared to spend at least $1,800 for a nicely loaded ThinkPad X with recommended 3 year warranty. Here is a nice review of the Dell Inspiron 700m from AnandTech.com For only $1,020 you can get a very nicely loaded Dell Inspiron 700m using the $600 off $1,599 coupon: Click here for Dell Home Office Scroll down on the right click More Details underneath the 700m for $1,068 Select the 2nd laptop from the left with the $1,232 price Scroll down and click Customize It Your pre-discount price is $1,532.00 Select the following upgrades: Primary Battery --> 65 WHr 8-cell Lithium Ion Primary Battery [add $59 or $2/month1] Office Productivity Software (Pre-Installed) --> Microsoft Works Suite 2005 - Includes Word 2002, Streets & Trips 2005 [add $29 or $1/month1] Scroll to the bottom and click Continue, your new pre-discount price should be $1,620 Enter coupon code 4HNS5$HG$0JR0F which should deduct $600 A few GottaDeal'ers including Brad own a Dell Inspiron 700m and AFAIK they're all very happy with the laptop.

I would recommend the Dell Inspiron 700m from Dell Home Office. Since you're allergic to paying retail don't forget to use a Dell coupon to save up to $800! For your convenience I have pasted the coupons below: PDQL6VRR83TVCJ Save $500 on any Inspiron Notebook purchase of $1399 or more.Coupon expires 4/12/05 at 5:59 am CT or after 4000 uses, whichever comes first. 4HNS5$HG$0JR0F Save $600 on any Inspiron Notebook purchase of $1599 or more.Coupon expires 4/12/05 at 5:59 am CT or after 4000 uses, whichever comes first. W2HKVHMFJVX3WM Save $800 on any Inspiron Notebook purchase of $1999 or more.Coupon expires 4/12/05 at 5:59 am CT or after 4000 uses, whichever comes first.
