My sisters in laws always take everyone out for dinner after the holidays, as a thank you( we host Christmas as we have the biggest house) for all the home cooked holiday goodness :) Anyway this year they are taking us all out for Christmas Eve instead. this will be the first time ever we are not home to eat on the Eve...it is causing me some anxiety, plus it being my DD's birthday doesn't make me feel any better about it.
So yeah, my question is to those who have gone out Christmas Eve as opposed to stayed home....was it a good experience? Would you do it again?
It just doesn't feel very "family" to me, even though the whole family will be there.......
personally I do not like it....... but I am not a fan of going out anyway... and holiday are for "grandams pie's", "aunt's casserole" and whatnot. we did it one year it was ok, we were together. That said my family does not do holidays anymore, I stay home alone eating(this year I am not even sure if I want to decorate) whatever so maybe my opinion is not the one you need, lol.

Although we've been donating to Toys for Tots for years, and DD6 just started to really understand last year when we talked about it again. Both kids (her and DS4) enjoy picking out gifts for the bins. I can't wait to do it again this year!
I'd also really like to look into donating our time to a good cause...any suggestions??
This year, we're also doing something a little bit different for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. My husband is an instructor at his Coast Guard base here. Often times, there are students left on-base for these holidays (family lives too far away, no transportation, etc). He came home yesterday and said he'd like to adopt some of these Coasties and bring them home for the holidays.
This holds a special place for me b/c I can remember being in Basic Training over Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's. We were adopted out to local families and able to spend the majority of Christmas Day with their family (and many of these families had no military affiliation. They were just local civilian families with rather big hearts).
We could call home, eat what we wanted, take a nap. And the families would be given a list of acceptable gifts they could give us (envelopes, paper, pens, stamps, etc).
Granted, the men and women in his classes have much more freedom than you do in Basic, but I'm very anxious to share our home and family with them, especially at Christmas, as the base essentially closes for 2 weeks. Could you imagine being on-base for 2 weeks, no classes, not much to do, at the holiday season?
And with my family now having moved away from the area, we're alone this holiday season. It'll be nice to have a full house. :)
that is a really cool idea....

That is amazing. Please let us know how you work out the legistics. Would love to do this here.... maybe get our office to donate. Since things are so tight around here.

If you are located near a National Amusements movie theatre (Multiplex, cinema de lux, etc) they have a Book Worm program each summer.
If the child presents a book report - they get into the movie free (and so does the parent and children under six) - happens on Wednesdays. I didn't see that the list was posted yet - but here is a link if you are interested.
cool ty

We're doing it this year. We had to buy the tickets in advance, $7 total for all 10 movies, 1 movie per week.

i am not stylish or have any clue what is "in", never did.......... jeans and tshirt kinda girl...... but i need some nice everyday shoes (the Birch) and desperately need a pair of nice black shoes................... i like:yup: those two because it looks like they could be dressed up or down;) and their are just stylish enough 4 me;)
all 3 support my desire to not to wear animal products and not buy any product that has been tested on animals.

Thanks for the post! There's a participating theater about 10 mins from our house. And it'll give the kids and I something to do. Are parents allowed to go in with them??
