  3. Shortbread Cookies

I got this recipe from a friend and tried it the other day. It is the best shortbread/butter cookie recipe i ever made. I used my mixer on it too instead of following the directions to do it by hand. i only mixed till the dough started to form then i finished it by hand. i put a nice walnut half ontop of each one. I'm told these taste even better when aged for about three weeks. i'm trying to hide a tin of them from the family so i can find out.

    Shortbread Cookies

    INGREDIENTS:

    1 1/2 cups butter, softened

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1 cup confectioners' sugar

    1 cup cornstarch

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    DIRECTIONS:

    1. Work all the ingredients together with your hands until blended. Shape all of the dough into 1 inch balls

    2. Bake cookies on ungreased cookie sheets, 2 inches apart at 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) for 20 minutes.

    3. Let cool 10 minutes then carefully lift with spatula to cake racks to cool. Store in air tight container with wax paper between layers. Cookies keep well.

    4. Variations: Flatten some balls with tines of fork and press 1/4 of a red or green glace cherry in center of each. Make thumbprint indentation in some balls and fill with a tiny bit of jam, jelly or marmalade. Dip some balls in slightly beaten egg white and roll in finely chopped walnuts. Bake as they are or make an indentation in top and spoon in a little jam or marmalade. Dip some balls in egg white and roll in desiccated coconut. Bake as they are or make an indentation and spoon in a little jam, jelly or marmalade.

  4. If you go in the crockpot section in the stores there is usually a sample of each set up for you to look over. thats what i would do check them out. i was excited when walmart had the 2 quart ones for BF till i went in the crock isle and saw how big a 2 QT one is..tiny so use your eyes to choose. i would say you need 4 or 5 Quarts and up one.

  5. happened to me with the mp3 players.. i ordered 3 the night before thanksgiving with the BF sale price. they led me to believe i was all set. then saturday i got an email stating i'm getting 2 only.. i could have gotten it in the store. i will never do BF shopping online again.. to risky. i did get my hands on one at walmart on sunday for the same BFsale price. look along top shelves you might find one left over . sorry for your loss on the dvd player.

  6. I noticed one good thing the ad says they hold up to 500 songs but when i got the player it says it holds 1000 songs:) I'm not sure if it matters to anyone who bought one but i also noticed it says for windows XP only . im bummed about that because the kids computer is windows millenium..so it looks like they will be on my computer more than i want them to be:(

  7. My daughter caled me first thing this morning to tell me she saw the same mp3 players from black friday still at walmart so i got over there and sure enough she was right. i got one and it was the same price as the BF door buster sale. they had about 13 of them. they were on the top shelf in the stereo/cd player isle. walmart.com only let me get 2 then cancelled my third one but didnt notify me until saterday. im ticked off to see them on the website for $129.00 today.. i will never trust BF online shopping again after this. but i'm happy i got the cancelled one today at the store itself.

  8. i got one over at walmart using the linens and things ad to pricematch for $39.99 yesterday. it was the hit of my shopping trip. this toy looks very cool. i googled earlier today and found a good site that shows different shows/news clips with it in action. it was good to see because although it looked cool i realy wasnt sure how it works. i posted the link in the other thread about price matching (PM) if anyone is interested to see it working.

  9. I was so proud to grab up three of the mini vac's at walmart only to realize when i got home they were not the kind for rugs with a beater bar. they are basicly electric brooms meant for floors. so i put one together and tried it out. i really think it works very well for floors. it will pick up some on rugs. Lesson learned ...read the box good! i was going to give one to each of my kids for thier rooms for quick vac'ing but thats out..jokes on me huh...lol i will still give them out but to older people with big kitchen floors;)

  10. My foot cramped for an hour after standing in line at CC for 3 hours in 10 degree temp. And got many bruises.

i had killer foot cramps too after i got home and tried to sleep the worst i ever experienced and they were happening on the top of my foot where the leg connets to the foot. in the store i did get rammed twice in a row in the back of the heel. i turned with a look that could kill and a nice woman was oh so sorry. she really didnt mean it she has a big huge tv in her cart blocking her veiw. i believed her appology.

  11. people were bundled up to the hilt around here it was 22 degrees with windchill even lower .. i saw husbands and wives wrapped together standing in comforters. there were several people in scary looking robber style ski masks..lol we were dressed for it including these little heat packs you hold in your hands my daughter brought along. those were good. we were joking after a while. my niece in her 20's claimed her toes were at the Mr. Deeds stage. you could bang them with a hammer and she wouldnt feel them. I was thinking how nice it would be if we had berkas for the day... it was bitter cold. everyone behaved where i was. there were a couple of losers who came when the line was moving and just started walking with the crowd. I think they had it planned they didnt try it at the front of the line but at the middle. they were like 5 people ahead of me and we were moving so you just had to grin and bare it. kathy
  12. I have no idea what i posted above is the only explanation. I felt confidant because i knew there would be no trouble with the payment. I did take your advice and just emailed them now. they really should put that they are checking to see if they have enough. not say your okay soon as the payment clears.. i know there was no problem there.

  13. Well for the first time i decided to try the online thanksgiving shopping. i ordered 3, mp3 players and recieved a confirmation of my order as follows:

We received your order and have begun to process it. It will be completed when your payment is approved and all order information and pricing is verified for accuracy.

    Items Shipped to an Address

    • You will receive another email when your item(s) ship.

    • If you ordered multiple items, your order may arrive in separate packages, and you'll

receive a separate email for each shipment.

so i go off shopping for other stuff yesterday feeling good that i have those players...well today i recieved a letter saying one of them has been cancelled

    Dear Kathleen ,

The item(s) listed below from your order have been cancelled.

This item may become available some point in the future.

Please check back on our site at a later date to see if it

is available. If so, you can place a reorder at that time.

at least it was only one of them but i am ticked off. no explanation. it didnt say 2 per customer or anything. i will never trust black friday shopping online ever again after this. kathy

  15. that happened once at a zares store sale i went to they only had like 5 tvs. it was my first BF and boy was i ticked off..now i know its a possible happening seeing i was #10 in that line and didnt get a tv.. i really want the mp3 players... im hoping they give us maps again so i know where to go in the store. that was excellent last yr.. the maps to the door busters.
  16. I used to buy the stencils but there was always a mess. the stuff is hard to get off and it ran when the front door/glass sweated. I decided to would try something new so i used the paints kids use for arts and crafts. you can buy them in big bottles of many colors at craft stores. i painted scenes with it and it does wash off after the season was over. But it was just as hard as the canned snow to get off. since then i reverted back to when i was a kid..my mother had this stuff called "glass wax" we used it on the windows back then. its a pink liquid that dries white, then you buff it off with a cloth. its meant for cleaning windows and a few metals too. but i used this with a sponge in my picture window swirling it around to look like clouds. i framed the window with lights too. but in the center of the window i left an big oval shape clear. this is where i put my mechanical santa and mini christmas tree. it looks so nice from outside...magical kind of.You cant see through the clouds if you put a couple of coats on, i had a hard time finding the wax but did get it at walmart.. they had it on the top shelf in the cleaning isle. it does have a high odor when your using it but it disapears when dry. i dont recomend kids doing the application for this reason. i dont remember this smell when i was a kid for some reason. If you can't find it at walmart try hardware stores maybe. i got mine about 4 yrs ago. the can goes far..lol
