  1. Sorry, I don't "get" the whole tax free thing. Here in VA the limit on school supplies is tax free on the first $20 purchased. And on clothes it's tax free on the first $100. Sales tax is 5% here. That means if I spent my limit of $20 I saved myself a whopping dollar! If I spent my limit of $100 on clothes I could save $5 more. Yet every year people go CRAZY, the stores are packed. Is it worth waiting in line for $6? Have you ever thought about what your time is worth?

My biggest problem with the sales tax holiday is this, while the savings to the individual are negligible, the cumulative loss in profit to the state is staggering (in the range of 12 to 15 MILLION dollars!). I don't know about else where in the country but in VA we are having a significant budget crisis. We do not have enough money for education, layoffs and furloughs of state workers are rampant. How many teachers jobs could be saved with 15 million dollars? How many state workers? Don't get me wrong, I know government waste is everywhere, but for me saving $6 or even $100 (if it were possible) is not worth someone's job.

  2. Which reminds me. I never quite got the point of advertising campaigns for certain products. Eggs for one. Not a brand of eggs. Just eggs. Is there really someone sitting out there somewhere that said, "hmm... eggs I forgot about those!". Milk has undoubtedly spent billions on advertising. I would be interested to see what a difference it made in their sales. I can see somewhat the point of advertising milk and getting it out there as a alternative beverage to soda and whatnot. But then you have advertising for things like electricity and coal. I'll never forget the day I was sitting at home and watching my battery powered TV in my freezing cold house, and I saw a commercial and realized I should go out and get myself some ELECTRICITY!
  3. Putting this here instead of the Free forum because the offer is now dead. Did anyone see the offer for free eggs on Facebook. It was in the form of a coupon you could print. Apparently the response was overwhelming and more than their servers could handle (like we haven't seen that before!) . Well a bunch of people did not get there coupons. Enough did to make me think this was a real offer. Still, what I find so funny is how upset these people are getting over a dozen eggs! If you go to the fb page and read some of their rants it's downright hilarious. I know times are tight for allot of people right now but seriously if you get that bent out of shape over a $1.50 carton of eggs then you need help.... seriously!
  4. Be prepared to deal with VERY rude people.

Yeah, because it's Wal-Mart they must be rude  They probably just get tired of dealing with all those illeagle aliens they got locked up in the back working for less than minimum wage.

Sorry I just don't get the "Hate Wal Mart" fad. My experiences with Wal Mart and their customer service center have all been positive.

  5. I am always the skeptical one, but just because it says the publisher's name at the bottom doesn't mean it's the actual company. There is a hearstmags.com (without the additional info on the link provided), but the price there is $15 for a year. I can't find anything on their actual site for the $5 deal. I did email the company to make sure it was a legit offer before ordering. I'm waiting on a response.

OP, where did you find the $5 off link? Was it from an email directly from the company? If so, then it should be fine.

For all you cautious types (which isn't a bad thing by the way) you can rest easy. Domain registration information:

    Registrant:

    The Hearst Corporation

    959 Eighth Avenue

    New York, NY 10019

    US

    Domain Name: HEARSTMAGS.COM

Much more info listed all can be found by searching whois.com

Anyone know any good deals on a kids magazine? Such as Highlights?

  6. I must be the only one whe has problems with Amazon :( My Harry Potter DVD shipped on Monday and it's not here yet! It really shouldn't take a week to get a package from KY to Ohio....it's one freaking state away!

The tracking is no help either, it looks like this:

December 7, 2009 04:11:48 PM Campbellsville KY US Shipment has left seller facility and is in transit

    December 10, 2009 07:29:00 AM -- -- -- Arrival scan

    December 10, 2009 07:00:00 PM -- -- -- Arrival Scan

The location is blank so I don't even know WHERE it is now! The estimated date of delivery was today but it wasn't in the mail.

Well that really isn't a problem with Amazon but the USPS (though I guess one could argue that it is Amazon's fault for using the USPS). Any time I have ordered from Amazon the stuff that is sent by mail is slower than the stuff that came UPS or FEDEX. Plus the USPS tracking system is HORRIBLE! No wonder the post office is in trouble. Give it a few more years. Our kids or grand kids will probably be saying "remember when people used to send stuff in the MAIL? Yeah, you had a mail box and you had to go out and check it every day. Someone actually had to DRIVE around and put the mail and those boxes. And it took a week to send something to another state!"

  7. I have had no problem with Wal Mart shipping. Ordered several things on BF. One of them came on Tuesday and everything else came on Wednesday! Very fast!

Now on the other hand as someone who sells occasionally on ebay the fast shipping of these merchants has made it very difficult in that it has changed everyone's expectations. Many times I have sold something only to get an email just one or two days after the auction ended demanding to know where there item was and why they hadn't received it!

Remember when ANYTHING that was ordered by mail took 6-8 WEEKS to arrive?

  8. My 7 year daughter is asking for a snuggie and that touch n brush. However, for 4 years now she has asked for a box of mail, yep a box of her own mail, a flag pole and a mail box for her bedroom. She is getting the box of mail again this year. Last year she got the mailbox.

That's funny my daughter (7) is asking for the Touch N Brush too! And the brownie pan that makes all the little cut up brownies.
