  1. Looking over my orders for the past year, between myself and my son we have placed 32 orders with Amazon-this is only orders that were eligible for Prime shipping, not marketplace orders. Both of us need specialized books on a fairly regular basis and there are no local bookstores that carry what we need, nor could they get them in a timely manner. I also don't consider Prime to be just free shipping - for me, it is also insurance for the times that I need something quickly and cannot get out to get it due to bad weather or health problems. It has saved me from real problems several times; for instance, this last winter was really bad here in Missouri with ice storms creating havoc, and I was able to get things I needed even when my vehicle was completely ice covered and frozen shut. 2. Marcster, thanks for the heads up. I am very familiar with Newegg-my son and I buy virtually all of our computer parts from them. The machine I am on now is one he built with Newegg parts about a year ago. Love their customer service; we had one defective part from them a couple of years ago and they swapped it, no questions asked, no hassle. Not really interested in a laptop for this purchase-I am on a computer 10 to 12 hours a day for work, and laptops are just not ergonomic enough for that. But I will take a look at their desktop machines; I had no idea they sold them. That sounds like it might be the perfect solution for me. Ruth Edit: I see they have Lenovo desktops. Anyone tried that brand recently and know how reliable they are now that they are not sold under the IBM brand?
  3. I have it too-just renewed for my second year. I got the popup offer last year for the 3 month trial, and found it was so convenient that I paid for it when the time came. What has really paid off for me is the 3.99 overnight shipping - there have been times I needed something fast and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg to get it. Plus this last winter, I was iced in for days and weeks at a time-and I could order things from Amazon that I needed but couldn't get out to get. It was a real lifesaver. Ruth
  4. Yep, gotta be Business. That is the only Vista version which will be certified as supported with our software - and I need to be using the same version as our client base. I know it limits my options but I don't have a choice in this. I was contemplating a Dell system - but they insist on everything being usb or wireless as far as peripherals are concerned which I hate, and by the time I configured a system the way I needed it the cost was over $1500 not including a monitor. Yeouch. It is beginning to look like my son is going to get to build his first Vista system for me; I hate to ask him to do it because he is so busy, but I am beginning to think I will have to ask. 5. Well, I am in the market for a desktop with Vista Business. I need it for my work - I do accounting software support, and I need to have a machine that I can start playing with to figure out how miserable this OS is going to make my life next year when our software is Vista certified I was hoping that Staples would have one, but I don't see anything listed on the rumors about it. Anyone think there is any hope? Online sale would be good - I am not close to most of the stores; even Staples is 15 miles away. Ruth
  6. Actually, I think I have a better message to send them: Dear Wal-Mart: I am one of those people who do not like your threat against a website that gives you the opportunity to reach literally thousands of potential customers at no cost to your company. Therefore, from this point on, I will buy nothing from your stores at regular price. I will be happy, however, to snap up any loss leaders you advertise that are actually a great buy. But not a pencil, item of clothing, box of detergent, or anything else at your 'everyday low price' will be added to my cart. Just think of me as your own personal local cherry picker helping to lower your profit margins. Ruth
