I went to my local best buy last year 5am and the line was around the building. Best buy is VERY popular in Augusta and we have office max compu usa staples and other computer places. The thing that surprised me was that they handed out coupons to the people in the beginning of the line for the products they wanted for example flat screen tv digital camera etc. this was only for the larger ticket items not the spindle of dvds or the movie dvds but if you are looking for the big ticket items you need to get there EARLY to get a ticket. Not sure if every Best Buy does this but it seemed like a standard practice last year at the store. The people towards the middle and end of the line were flipping out at the store managers because there was a pallet of cameras and monitors but they wouldnt give them to the people because they didnt have a ticket they had to wait to see if the all the ticket holders handed in there tickets it was utter chaos. So go to bed early tommorrow night:)

what exactly would qualify as a 'big ticket item'?

They will usually give out tickets for the super hot deals, the things they know will sell out fast, and they only have a limited quantity of. This could include lower priced items like, DVD players etc. If you read the fine print in your ad tomorrow it will say something like "minimum x amount per store", those will usually be the things they hand out tickets for, and once they are out of tickets that means they are sold out of the item. So, if you find out the tickets have already been distributed for the items you wanted...you might as well head to your next shopping destination (unless there were some other things you wanted there that didn't have tickets distributed).

I went to my local best buy last year 5am and the line was around the building.

The last few years I have gone to either Best Buy, Circuit City, or Staples, about 45min to an hour before they open and was anywhere from about the 20th-40th person in line. So I guess it all depends on the area you live in.

Best Buy last year around here, the line wrapped around the parking lot, several hundred people, but they served coffee and donuts. IT WAS COLD, and you had to wait in line outside for an hour. My husband was like the 100th-150th person in the line and he didn't get the computer hardware (memory, I think, I don't remember) that he wanted. They guaranteed 10 per store, but there is no way that they had that many since most people were wanting a DVD player or TV or something. He thinks that they didn't even have 2 just because there wasn't enough shelf space! He complained since it was like 5 minutes after the store opened and they said that it was limited quantities, no rainchecks, etc. They had numbers for a few of the items that were bigger, but not this. He was also looking in the right area because he had scoped it out a couple of days before.
