krucook
I'm not finding a memorial day clearance. I found an end of school year clearance.
debmills93
I don't see a sale, either. I clicked on sales and bargains and got 6 items that look like they've been marked down. None of the other items shown even look like they have a sale price. It all looks like regular price to me. How do I find the 75% off?
jbrawn26
I refuse to buy from Scholastic's website or book orders until they stop pushing video games and junk toys instead of actual reading material on the school book order forms they send home with my kids. I let my son pick books out and order them from somewhere else.

letsbeon
Being a teacher, I think Scholastic provides a nice selection of reasonably priced books. Yes, they do have video games and junk toys, but they are few compared to the number of books offered.

I agree with you, but they've been doing it since I was a kid, which was a LONG time ago! yes I sent an email this year after I'd had enough. There is also a petition going on facebook ( yeah I know facebook but better than nothing ) about it from other parents and there was a new york times article about it. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/10/books/10scho.html?_r=2 to each his own but they're not getting anymore money out of me unless this is changed Edited May 26, 2009 by jbrawn26 eta
biesers5
As a teacher I just discourage my students from ordering the "junk". If parents didn't order from these monthly my classroom library would suffer greatly b/c I use the points I earn to build my library - otherwise it would all have to come out of my pocket. I am not seeing the sale either.
First Lady
My kids know they don't get the junk toy or games, we have no probs ordering the books though. I love how I can get them so much cheaper than the book store, plus I can help my kids teachers get stuff for the classroom. I don't boycott the whole Scholastic company, just boycott buying the nonsense items.

We know the parents don't send in money for the kids to be bringing home posters, toys, ect.
stacya
I also keep in mind that by my buying books from Scholastic from the fliers my kids bring home, that I am helping their class get books, too...I basically toss out the video game ones, and my kids don't really think twice about those anyway...they just love getting new books, and I like that they're cheap! jbrawn26
I help with the book fair at school. We only put out books. We know the parents don't send in money for the kids to be bringing home posters, toys, ect.good for you! The last book fair my 8th grader attended I sent in money and he came home with a $3 pack of food shaped erasers and a $10 flashlight =( Believe me he knew he was not to do that but he did it anyway and he didn't get any money for the next one. We donate books to the classroom when we purchase elsewhere I usually pick up one or two and we buy when the book orders are sent home just not from them. edited to add I do buy books published by Scholastic and I'm sure I don't make much of a difference in boycotting the orders and online site but it makes me feel like I'm at least making an effort.
