Bryophyte Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 I'm looking for a digital camera for my son's 9th birthday. Hopefully under a hundred bucks, doesn't have to be terribly fancy. What's the best deal on a low-end/starter camera right now? I got my mom one for her birthday last year that was on clearance at Target (a Fuji I think) for somewhere around 70 bucks... Serena
RossMAN Posted June 4, 2005 Posted June 4, 2005 Hi Serena, Welcome back :) Do you remember the model number of that Fuji? They make excellent entry level digicams without having to spend $500 on a 5MP digicam.
yum114 Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 get him a kodak easyshare cx7300 for 100 bucks almost everywhere It has 3.2 megapixel with video recorder, and 2x digital zoom. Its a good camera
RossMAN Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 yum114, Thank you for the recommendation. Although I never recommend HP or Kodak digicams this seems like a good model for Serena's needs. Review: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/cx7300.html $100 is a good price as Amazon.com sells it for $139.99
m61376 Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 although a bit riskier, with everyone buying all these cameras recently with all of Dell's great deals, places like Ebay and Craigslist have lots of used, older models for sale, many times good cameras for great prices. Especially if you live in a major city where there is a craigslist, there really isn't any risk, because you can check out your purchase before buying it. For example, you might be able to pick up one of the older 2 mp Canon digital elphs, with optical zooms, which take extremely good pictures.
RossMAN Posted June 5, 2005 Posted June 5, 2005 Rossman, is there I should know about kodak?HP and Kodak digicams do not measure up against Canon, Fuji, Nikon, Olympus, Sony, Konica Minolta, and Pentax.
Bryophyte Posted June 7, 2005 Author Posted June 7, 2005 Thanks, guys. I'll check out the Kodak camera. I was really hoping to catch a camera on clearance again, but this might have to do. :)
