Wow... there's really no reason not to have broadband now.

If it's available in your area, which-- of course it's not available in mine. We have the normal local providers, but nothing else like this.

What does the rate change to after 1 year?

Probably whatever their then-current rates are. A year is a long time. $15 could be their regular price by then. Threaten to move to RoadRunner and they'll probably offer you another great rate.

I said that because if SBC lowers their price, (hopefully) the other providers would follow suit - then there's really no reason not to have broadband. :)

I called SBC-DSL retention department a few munites ago to get my service rerated to $ new 14.95 plan that came out today. I switched to $ old 19.95 only two months ago from $26.95 but they switched me to the new 14.95 plan with a new 1-year contract starting next month. Great!

So, it looks like they are pretty flexible with pricing. Good deal, I will let my parents know about this. I think they are currently paying $14 / month for dial-up, and they keep watching for RoadRunner to be available in their area ever since they used it at my house.

Is there a way to see if it is offered in your area? I looked at the site, but couldn't find out if it was offered. Or, does anyone know if it is avaiable in Pittsburgh, PA? My uncle is looking to get DSL, and this is a sweet deal!

If you know your uncle's landline phone number and physical address you can check online.

I tried that, but it says "

SBC Yahoo!® DSL

We were unable to validate account information for the number you provided. Proceed with ordering and a SBC service representative will contact you to validate your account information before processing your order."

So I don't know if that means there is no service in that area, or if it means that he simply doesn't use SBC for his phone sevice or something like that.
