cokemeyer Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 Hi - my retired father (60's) is really in need of some interesting activities he can do at home to occupy his mind and time. He has already tried paint by number kits and I think may be bored now with those. Does anyone have any good ideas and/or deal tips on other types of hobby kits for adults? I'd like to get him some for Christmas. thanks a lot!!
CaLee92 Posted November 30, 2008 Posted November 30, 2008 My retired Father in Law has taken up video taping family get togethers. Then spending weeks editing them ( adding Music and photos) Then giving them to us. He has gotten quite good at it. He also enjoys gardening. Between those two things he is very busy. Maybe a prepayed class at the community college learning to do something new would be fun.
cokemeyer Posted December 3, 2008 Author Posted December 3, 2008 thank you! That's a very good idea! I'm thinking he might like a woodworking kit. Does anyone know good online places to get a variety of those?
whereswaldo Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 My grandfather took up preprinted cross stitch at the age of 65. He made each of his great grandchildren baby quilts for the future. He has since passed but I do cherish the quilt he made for my son's first born
lakj98 Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 What about a wood burning kit? I know they sell them at Michael's and you can usually find 40% off coupons in the Sunday paper.
theboyzmom Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 I know our Hobby Lobby and Joannes have several kits for various craft projects....wood building, wood burning included take a long, slow walk around a craft store...you might be surprised at what you find!

crazypurgatory Posted December 3, 2008 Posted December 3, 2008 How about remote controlled models? I Have built a R/C Plane before and it take some time to build it. They Also have boats and ship's all made of balsa wood. Just make sure he does not super glue his fingers together or to the wood. But don't worry the make stuff for that too.:)
