PALM DESERT, Calif., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Two men fatally shot each other Friday inside a Toys R Us store in Palm Desert, Calif., in what may have been a clash between rivals, police said.

Riverside County Sheriff's Sgt. Dennis Gutierrez said Palm Desert police got a call saying shots had been fired inside the store and two people were dead inside, the Desert Sun of Palm Desert, Calif., reported.

Palm Desert Councilman Jim Ferguson said police told him two men armed with handguns shot and killed each other and that there were 25 witnesses, the newspaper reported.

Sarah Pacia of Cathedral City, Calif., said she was in the department store with her two boys, ages 4 and 6, when she heard a commotion in the next aisle. She thought it was people rushing to get a sale item, and then she heard three or four gun shots.

"This is Toys R Us. There are kids shopping in there," Pacia said.

2 Dead In Shooting At Toys 'R' Us In Palm Desert

PALM DESERT (CBS) ― Two people were shot and killed today inside a Toys "R" Us store in Palm Desert.

Police swarmed to the store near the intersection of Fred Waring Drive and Highway 111 after calls began coming in around 11:30 a.m. about the shooting as shoppers jammed the store seeking "Black Friday" bargains.

There was no immediate word of any relationship between the victims or what caused the shooting to erupt.

Some employees and shoppers continued to be held nearly an hourly after the shooting, as authorities continued an investigation.

At least one teenager was reportedly taken in custody. However, there was no immediate word why he was taken into custody or if he was involved in the shooting.

The store's parking lot was surrounded by yellow police tape, keeping the public and reporters away.

economy sucks so people are desperate to save on every cent possible. parents dont want to tell kids christmas presents not till next year. the worst part is the deals were pathetic this year

I'm not a parent but I'd rather have to tell my kids no Christmas presents this year then have to resort to shooting and killing someone over a stupid toy.

This is exactly why I don't go out on Black Friday...you just never know what idiot will be in the line with you. Not that everyone is nutso like these people being arrested, but in the last few years, it seems to be escalating. And with the bad ecomony putting more pressures on people it just adds fuel to the fire. I hope & pray that the individuals that were injured make it thru okay. Unfortunately for the Walmart employee, his family will be without him this Christmas...all because people needed to get that big tv on sale. :(

Yes, thankfully the only dead are "2 Latino males" who apparently were also the gunmen. I was just coming out of the Westfield Shoppingtown a couple of blocks away from this shortly after it happened. I couldn't believe the number of police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, etc. that I saw zipping by.

Seriously though...how many people go armed into a Toys 'R Us on Black Friday??

I can't believe some people in this world think an item is worth more than a life. I feel for the walmart employee's family and all the children that was at Toys r us. My life is worth more than that. I was at my local walmart yesterday morning. I could not believe the way people were pushing each other. I have a lady behind me with a cart pushing the cart into my heels, I turned around and she kept saying sorry and pushed the cart into me again. She asked me if I could move. There were carts and people all around me, no one could me.What is with the big rush on big screen tv's. Christmas isn't about how many gifts you can get for someone. REMEMBER THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!!!!!!!!!!!

This happened to me at walmart too. I turned around and she apolgized to me too.

But I was thinking.. WTH do you want me to go? The isles were crammed with people.

AND when she got my ankles, I ended up getting the one in front of me accidentally.

I should have known better than to go to electronics! :gdparanoid:
