Toys R Us will be having these scooters for $17 on BF, possibly online too. http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3142090&siteID=RjWYtCqO0.M-jYkdZy.UGtmhL8t0ie5Z7w

For Blocks, this Mega Blocks wagon would be perfect for a one year old. it's 50% Off on BF at Kmart. I am sure you can find this online too, tho.

As for the kitchen set, I am thinking fake kitchen food maybe? That would be either a Toys R Us buy or Walmart.

Portable Video System, if you got the money, grab a used GameBoy Advanced off of Ebay or Gamestop, and a game or two.

Hi Katiesmommy! I just did some searching around on Amazon, and I'm no expert, but what about this: http://www.amazon.com/Sega-Game-Gear-Color-Portable-System/dp/B000GSQ6QS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=videogames&qid=1227584464&sr=1-2

From the reviews it almost looks like it was a "dark horse" or a system that was very good but got buried by the competition....

OR you could just go the route of buying him one or two of those inexpensive handheld games that you see so frequently around this time of year....at least they don't require any game cartridges...

I used to have one of these!!! wish I had kept it now (sold it at a garage sale w/all my games)...it's an old system though, would like to find her something newer so it would be easier for her to find games :) Good to see you!

ahh, it's a she! :) I went out on ebay and you really can get some great deals on Game Boy and Game Boy advance and some auctions come with lots of games, accessories....not sure though what your requirements are for whether or not you can get used items.. This all makes me get nervous thinking about the years not so far away when I won't be able to get great deals on $10 colorful plastic toys, lol! So nice of you to do all this! NO MORE smokey ponies for you this year! :2roller:

oh - just had an idea for the kitchen set. Last year DS5 got this rather pricey set from an amazon 3rd party seller that basically amounts to a rubbermaid box filled with all sorts of things to play restaurant with - a paper tablecloth, pad for taking orders, apron, paper menus, salt and pepper shakers, plates, cups, some food, etc. It even had some cheap plastic ketchup and mustard containers in it from the dollar store. Anyway, he LOVED it and so does my other son who is now 4. Maybe you could buy a picnic basket or other storage box and fill it with some fake food/dishes along with paper items and the like to make it like a kitchen set without the pricey plastic structure.
