Do You Do Stockings?

My parents never did stockings for us when we were little, but I do them for my family now. They don't get filled until Christmas Eve. I know some people give their stockings on St. Nicholas's arrival, which if I'm not mistaken is somewhere around December 7th? I think this is mostly a Catholic thing, but I could be wrong. What do you do?

Funny you should bring up this topic. My parents filled stocking for us every year. It was the first thing we opened Christmas morning. I am 50 this year and for this first time we won't all have stockings at my Mom's. She said it is just too expensive since everyone is grown. The problem is each time a spouse or grandchild came along she added a stocking for them. So this year it would be 13 stockings. Instead she will just be filling stocking for the 4 young ones.

At my house I fill stockings for my dd, sil and 2 grandchildren. They open them when they come over Christmas morning.

I remember when we were little hangin our stockings for Santa was the last thing we did before we went to bed Christmas eve.

I never had a stocking when I was growing up either. I have always done stockings for my family and our dogs. As the kids are getting older they keep getting more expensive, but I love filling them on Christmas Eve. :cheesy:

we always had a stocking and christmas boot that was filled xmas eve night. I still carry this tradition with my kids. The way we do St. Nick is we have someone make a bag of candy and knock on our door and run so the kids can't see who it is(they think it is st. nick). My son is already making plans for how he is going to catch him this year. Good thing my nephew can run fast!:)

Yes I do stockings and has always been a favorite at our house. I have 2 married kids now plus I do stockings for my parents and DH's dad and step mom. I am cutting back this year. So I have the huge stockings from the Dollar Tree and they will be done for couples if married. this will cut the stockings down from 12 to 8. I have also set myself a $25.00 limit per stocking. For one DS and DIL I am doing a greakfast theme. (Their money is tight so groceries help) For my DS in college I am doing snacks and school supplies. Not sure about the rest yet.

We do stockings and my parents did stockings for us. We love the stockings! I put them up when I decorate but usually don't fill them before xmas. Sometimes if I get little stuff for my boyfriend I will put it in his already but I don't fill the kids stockings til santa comes. My boyfriend puts stuff in mine and I put stuff in his and the kids. In my teenage years and stuff my parents would do make-up, body spray, body wash, and stuff like that.

We always had stockings growing up and I do stockings for my family as well. They usually consist of a dvd, a video game, candy, maybe some perfume and any other little goodies I find throughout the year. I have tried to get my dh to fill my stocking but he never has, so I fill my own. Kind of lame, I know, but at least it isn't empty. :D

I do stockings for dh,and the boys and dh is supposed to do mine (some years I do my own). I also do stockings for the 2 bachelor uncles-- mostly candy and other small stuff I find. Sometimes the stockings are more fun than the actual gifts, especially in bad years....

I do stockings, I hang them on top of the mantle (fireplace). I have 10, my kids, grandkids, Son in law, and husband. I put them up on Black Friday, after I'm back from the stores. As we are buying stuff, we are filling them. We buy candies, socks, body splash from BBW, gift cards from Burger King, Blockbuster, Target, etc.. and scratchies. We open them the night of December 23rd.

I had a stocking growing up! It was my favorite! It was always a treasure chest to me:D

I now do a stocking for my son and boyfriend:)

I do however need ideas to fill them with - any suggestions? So far I have for the boyfriend dvd's, socks, but I have no clue what else (I have never did a stocking for him before his parents do them every year (cologne, deoderant, candy, boxers, toothbrush, shampoo, and some other stuff, but this year I want to do one too but of course different things then his parents):confused:

we do stockings, i had one growing up and we always did stockings when we woke up in the morning but couldnt do gifts until everyone was up. If you werent up by 7 than you got woken up but it gave us early risers something to enjoy at 5 am lol. my kids of course love stockings, and they have to big huge ones that they could fit it, i fill it up with little things from the dollar store, sometimes i think they enjoy the stocking more than their gifts.

Stockings are a big thing at my house, a few years ago I talked to my dd's about not doing them, I always overfilled them and had to wrap most of the items to put around their stockings. Since they are married and each have a child I was spending quite a bit filling stockings. My dd's thought I had lost my mind and told me that the stockings were the best part of Christmas and I couldn't change that tradition.

So we came up with a great idea that has worked wonderfully for us and helped me save a little...lol Each of the adults has to buy a stocking stuffer for everyone elses stocking. I still buy a few extra items, like it wouldn't be Christmas without their Victoria Secret undies, and new tubes of lip balm, and whatever else I find, last year they all got flash drive one of my BF finds.

When they arrive Christmas morning they come in and put the goodies in all the stockings, while I keep the grandkids busy with something else...

They are the first thing we open and go through, even the grandkids get so involved they forget about all the stuff under the tree and around the room. :holiday08

I always had a stocking and I still get one from my parents as well as DH and the Kiddos. I also do the stockings for my kiddos. DD 15 & DS 13. I also do one for DH and the kiddos and DH does mine. He gives the kids a set amount and he lets them go at it.

We've always done stockings, even when I was a kid.

Funny story....

Me and DW's first Christmas, I bought her a matching diamond earrings & pendant and put it in her stocking. I got to mine and found deodorant.

Just wondering if she was she trying to tell me something?

Somewhere on here, in another thread, is a whole big list of stuffer ideas. I was asking for suggestions for kids in K and 1st grade specifically because I'm providing the goody bags for both my kids' classes (and a few extras) so it's going to be a total of 50 or so. Problem is, I can't find the list...
