ohitsunshine Posted September 15, 2008 Share Posted September 15, 2008 So we moved to FL a year and a half ago. All of our family lives in NY and my sisters are in VA. This year because we all used up our vaca time for my sister to get married we are doing Christmas mid January. Anyone else do that? I think some upsides are the after Christmas deals, I could extend some shopping time. The downside I think is that it just won't be the same on Christmas Day. We have 3 kids and my husband so we will still do our Santa stuff and whatnot. What experiences have you had having it later? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's wonderful! It's nice to have a day that we don't have to do anything but sit around and play with the kids and bake cookies. I make food on xmas eve that I can just throw in the oven & bake on xmas day so I don't even have to do any cooking. Since we started doing it we'll never go back to running around on xmas day or having company over. Spending time with family is what matters, not what day you do it on. And it seems to be more relaxed and nobody has to leave to go to another party. My husbands family wasn't thrilled with us when we started doing it, but now they all do it too. We used to have to do 2 families and church Xmas Eve, and then 3 familes Xmas day and that was with 2 parties earlier in the month. Every year we would think next year we are staying home! I had one of the big family events moved to mid December and it was great. It was one thing done and we only had maybe 4 or 5 stops to make between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Then we do my husbands family on new years day. We have to rent out a gym for his immediate family. Some of the younger ones come with a little bit of a hangover but they make it through the day:). We (my dh, dd, and I) do christmas on christmas itself though. ANyways, its not bad having it in January. My mom leaves her (artificial) tree up, has all the decor out still, etc. We cook a huge meal, do presents, etc.. it stills ok PLUS you get the day after christmas deals.
