Gray04
Thanks! These are great ideas. I am not concerned with the traditional dinner, will throw these ideas out to DH tonight.
ohitsunshine
I can honestly say I have never been out for Thanksgiving dinner- are a lot of places busy? Is it common? My Grandma would beat me if I tried to eat out! But it sounds so easy and not stressful!
Gray04
jenrein, stress is one reason we are looking to change our traditions. It has got to the point where it is just the 4 of us and my Mom and DSF most years. We can eat with them most any night of the year. When it is more than just us it seems so stressful. It is as if people are thinking, "We have to make this special as it is THANKSGIVING". I would much rather get together any night of the year and be able to truly enjoy the company. I would rather eat PB sandwiches with them and enjoy then get all worked up over it being Thanksgiving. Thanks for your responses!
leefamily23
We'ver tried to go out for Christmas dinner, but never Thanksgiving dinner. It was near impossible here. For Christmas anyhow, the only place open was Denny's, everything else was closed. Now my inlaws went out for Chinese a few years ago for Thanksgiving. Honestly, I thought it was weird, sooooooo non-traditional to have Chinese food on Thanksgiving.

mgmckny
We've gone to GOlden Corral for the past 2 years and went to Cracker Barrel one evening with some unexpected company...Our favorite CHinese restaurant is also open and for both THanksgiving and Christmas they do a turkey along with the regular chinese dishes (it's a buffet or you can order off a menu). Some of the bigger hotels offer buffets as well, but they are kind of pricey and my kids like chinese or the corral.
StephanieD
Since my husband and I moved away from family, we've gone out to eat for Thanksgiving. We always go to Cracker Barrel and then we go see one or two movies.
wormurm
I usually cook Thanksgiving dinner at home and we also go and visit family too. We did go to Cracker Barrel for breakfast after the Black Friday sale last year and the food as well as the atmosphere of the restaurant was great and very holiday like. Perhaps that would be a good restaurant to eat at for Thanksgiving.
tokanm
We eat Chinese food every year and then go to a new movie..generally with a Christmas theme. This year I will be solo as DS's won't be home..both away and I have no other family but a Dad in Florida and a brother in Maine (who I do not get along with) I am planning on going to maybe NH to go shopping

Thanks for your responses! This is a big reason that we started going out for Christmas and then it's morphed to Thanksgiving. My in-laws don't get it, but I'd rather keep things simple and they lean to the elaborate. My sil has never been around young children and when the boys were little, I would be a nervous wreck by the time we left their house and didn't enjoy Thanksgiving at all. So for Christmas we stopped doing anything fancy, one year we had a meat platter and different sandwich breads and gradually my side of the family decided that we enjoyed not cooking and spending the afternoon talking (usually have some desserts at the house).
