Hello, I am very new to the forum, and I dont have much posting experience, but from what i've posted and read it has been very informative and makes differences in my life for the positives, so big thanks to the forum and the community.

I"m looking to buy some wood to build a cabin and I cannot seem to find anywhere online where I can get a price for wood with which to build a cabin with. Also I wonder if its possible to buy wood that isnt flat sheets, but round, to give a more "log" look, kind of like the older Russian style houses.

Logs kind of like the ones in the walls of this Russian house, anybody know?

How much would it be? And if not possible to find a price for that, then how much for just regular wood to build your cabin with? and where to get it? and who builds them?

Thanks a lot with all of your help,

Saruji.

Hi Saruji,

This certainly is an interesting question but we're always up for a challenge :)

As luck would have it I recently read a very informative newspaper article about log cabins including building them. I would be more than happy to mail you the article with has toll free phone numbers and web site links. If you are interested, please PM me with your name, mailing address and daytime phone number.

Thank you for the kind words, we certainly appreciate it and look forward to seeing you around.

Your best bet is to price shop your local lumber yards and home improvement stores. You have 2 options to get that log cabin look, as far as I know. You can go with logs, and have a genuine log cabin. You can also get "log siding" which goes on any building just like siding, but it's rounded on the outside, almost like you took the first 1/4 of the log off. That's probably the better option, as you would be able to build the cabin more easily and then give it that log-cabin look.

I checked out Ace's and Home Depo, but they didnt have a clue. A lumber yard huh? yellow pages I suppose.

I don't know if you have a Menards in the area, but I know they stock the log siding, because it was in their flyer this week. I would go with a local lumber yard, though. They typically know best about what they have and what's available.
