Target..GRRR!!!!

I normally don’t do this but I’m so mad! We just had our bathroom redone, beautiful tile floor, walls, the works:D. So now for the fun part…shopping for new décor. My youngest and I hit up Target first. I love finding deals there and I ALWAYS have a great experience, well that is until today!

 

While I was shopping for accessories, I decided to change out for another toilet seat. They have hung displays and the shelf tag and extra seats are behind the hung display. So I found one I like. The display was a plain white seat, metal hinge (not brushes nickel either) no details, no scallops, nothing. The display was hung and under it, the shelf tags said basic white seat, $4.99 (there were about 4 left on the shelf and where all the same). I was huh, nice price, considering I bought the previous seat (EXACT SAME ONE) at Meijers for $10.99 a few years ago. Any ways, I looked the others and the tags matched up with the other seats….wood tag under/ wood display….dolphin tag /under dolphin display…..brushed nickel/under brushed nickel ….. soft tag /under soft display… see the pattern here…LOL so I was on my marry way with my $4.99 deal:yup:.

 

I get to the register and the cashier was nice I had over a $100 bucks of decorations….. oh yeah and some Valentines clearance...LOL She scans the seat and it comes up $19.99:(.. I was huh? I had her check it. I told her the DISPLAY was the hung there and the tag said $4.99. She walkie talkied some associate to check it out, and bring up the one that is $4.99. The employee brings up this cheap piece of crap, that WASN’T even on display:yuck:!! I said OH NO… that was not the one on display. The cashier got very rude at that point. Her words were “well I am NOT giving this one to you at $4.99, because people move things around.” Ok, I used to be a retail supervisor, so I know customers switch things around, and I can understand if it was in the wrong place, but the display was HUNG there and the tag for it said $4.99… It was NOT this cheap one that was hung there with the $4.99 price tag either. She said I don’t care I and NOT letting you have it for $4.99, I asked her can I speak to a manger , she said I AM the manager, I said then can I show you what I am talking about, she got all huffy and said fine. She stomped back there, my little one had to run just to keep up. We got the displays and I showed her, the one I bought was the SAME one on display and it was clearly marked $4.99, Her comment was “It was not the right tag, and I should learn to read”. I was SHOCKED:eek: I had never been spoken to like that before. I kept my cool:gdlicklips:.. I showed her how the OTHER tags were corresponding with the displays. I said I understand customers move things, but HER employees hung the displays, and HER employees placed the tags, so I customer couldn’t mess with that, and if her employees made a mistake it’s not the customers fault. She claimed the tags were for another product, I said ok where? cause now the other seats that WERE there mysteriously disappeared. She said I don’t know. I then showed her how the other tags matched the displays. She said she didn’t care, and that I was not getting it for that price. If I had any problems with their displays I can call corporate. I said ok. On the way back up to the front she had the audacity to ask me if I wanted the $19.99 one... I said NO, I can get that one for $10.99 why would I pay $19.99. I just paid the bill, and left. I did stop at the service desk for the number I will call it tomorrow I had work tonight and didn’t have a chance.

 

The thing that gets me is how rude she was. As a manager, she had VERY poor service skills. Another thing, not that is mattered, but stands out now, she had WAY too many piercings. I have nothing against it, but for a manager it was a bit excessive. She had her eyebrow, above her lip (like a beauty mark), nose, some bar through the front to the back of her cartilage on the top of her ear, about 4 up the ear on each side, and HUGE hanging earrings . I thought when working retail, you could have ear and all others had to be covered. Now when I reflect I wonder if she even was a manger...LOL Anyways I’m calling tomorrow. I think it was very poor customer service. The funny thing is this Target is located BETWEEN Wal-Mart and Meijers, so I don’t need to shop at this one ever again. OK OK OK I understand it is only a measly $15 difference, but now it’s principle:gdparanoid:….do not misleads your customers, and then when the customer calls you on it, you disrespect them and insult them. NO WAY!!! I was so temped to return all the items just for spite, but the candy was yummy;)...LOL

 

 

GGRR….. thanks for letting me vent!! :fluffy:Needless to say I was bummed after that, and just came home, I will go out tomorrow, my day off.!!

Thanks guys ... I'm glad it's not just me.

There is no name listed, but I have my receipt with the associates number, so I will check into this. However I find it funny that a regular cashier would just leave the register and walk back there with me. Oh well.

 

My hubby was laughing at me.. he said he would hate to be the rep that answers the phone at corporate tomorrow, they will get and earful...LOL

and they should because of people like her they'll loose money and they don't want that to happen. she needs to learn her place and how to treat customers. whether she a manager or not you don't treat people like that. let me tell you if anyone was to tell me to "learn to read" i would have gone off the wall! i don't know how you kept your cool with that one.

My littleone was there so I didn't want to make a scene. Otherwise I would have gone off;).

 

I told hubby I was thinking about closing our Target accounts, I am that pissed. However I am torn I really really like the Super Target by my work:yup:, and they are so awesome at that store, I get GREAT grocery deals there.

 

I just hate this one near the house.

Right behind you on that one! I can guarantee you that she would have been sorry those words ever emitted from her ignorant mouth! I can picture something along the lines of, "Yes, I did learn to read. Perhaps you haven't. Might I suggest you promtly retrieve a dictionary from the book section of the store and look up the word insolent? It's how I will describe you when I report your actions to corporate tomorrow." ;)

It was mismarked. In my state, they're required to give it to you for the price displayed. It's not the toilet seat. It's the point of it. She was not asking for 75% off. She was asking for the price on the display, which is completely legitimate.

First of all I probably shouldn’t even waste my time responding to your comment. Obviously you don’t understand the situation. It’s not about getting a friggin toilet seat for 75% off.:mad: It’s about customer service, and responsibility!!

 

First of all, this particular seat was BOLTED to the shelf with a price tag of $4.99. When I took it to the register it scans for 3x that amount?? If you went to buy something KNOWING it was one price, only to get to the register to find out it costs 3 times more you would be ok with that??:rolleyes:.. . I think not.

I have been trained and worked in customer service for a retailer. There had been situations where an item scans wrong. But because we value our customers, and want them to be loyal to us, plus we also know there is human error at times, we would at least honor the price!!! It’s called customer service.

 

Secondly, it's more about the way the cashier/manger handled it. She didn’t have to insult my intelligence or question literacy. I asked her a question and she ignored me, She stomped her feet, and gave an attitude.

Surprisingly, I disagree with mugs.. if this had been an item on a shelf, not hung up or anything, fine.. but even as the OP said a few times, it was hung up and only the employees could have done it (made the mistake). In many states, retail stores HAVE to give that item to the customer for that price (sadly not the law in Oregon but anyway..).

 

I think the issue was more of the way it was handled or mishandled, I should say. She practically called the OP a liar, told her to learn to read (which is just incredibly rude, I mean - beyond RUDE), etc.

 

Even if the employee (I'd be shocked if she is the actual manager!) couldn't sell it at $4.99, FINE. She could have handled it a lot better though and not been such a B to the OP.

 

I also think it's worse that she treated you this way in front of your child. My children pay attention to things like that. I just had a guy flip me off the other day while driving down the highway (I had to brake to avoid the guy in front of me, therefore pissing the guy off behind me - so he got next to me and flipped me off) - so then ALL THREE of my kids were going, "What was that? And why did he look so angry, Mommy?" Kids notice everything. Not saying they won't have to deal with similar crap in their future, but it's annoying to have to explain other peoples terrible attitudes to your kids.. who you are trying to teach to be nice, understanding, etc.

Oh wow.. My heart bleeds for this cashier. She must have had such a hard day of

all of us GDers coming in to "steal" her deals from under her that she just snapped. :razz:

 

There is no way she is a manager. If she in fact is.. she needs to be stripped of that title,

cuz she obviously doesnt know how to respect another person and give quality CS.

What some one looks like has nothing to do with how they proform the job. She is employed by Target so her piercings must have been alright with her employer. The way she handeled her job is one thing.

Regardless of the origonal price she should have made it right. I would have done the EXACT same thing. Its pointless to point out how much the $4.99 was discounted per origonal price- 75% off or 5% off. The point was an error was made by the stock employees. Then they should have gave it to you for the $4.99 price THEN corrected it on the shelf.

Ok...here is my point: If you have an issue with a price, ask to see the manager, and continue insisting on seeing THE manager. Be as polite as possible and write down names and time and what they say. THEN, if you are not happy, call corporate.

 

All of this other stuff is just not necessary.

 

I think we have all found something priced wrong. If the store doesn't give it to you for that price, we, as consumers, have a decision to be made: Shop there or not shop there.

 

I have seen pricing issues and occasionally I have not gotten the price. I, as a consumer, make my decision with my pocket book.

 

That is my opinion.

Wow, I really don't want to get into this debate, I think you were treated wrong, the only thing I wanted to add was next time take out your cell phone if you have one, and take a picture for corporate, a picture is worth a thousand words! Hope corporate treats you better!

As for the piercing comment. I have worked in retail and most companies require minimal piercings. I know from experience that a lot of employees will disreguard that and wear them when they know that they will not get reprimanded. I honestly thought that Target was a lot higher class then Wal-Mart and took more pride in appearance and professional attire ect... I dont have a problem with piercings, but I dont think that they are appropriate when you work in retail or most customer service oriented businesses.

 

 

I really cannot believe the attitude she gave you. She should def be reported.

I understand the situation quite well, thanks. If I see something at a store like Target that looks like it's too good a deal, the first thing I do is scan it at one of their price checkers to make sure that it wasn't mismarked or placed in the wrong location. But if I did make it up to the register and it rang up for 4x the price that was on the shelf, I'd just decline the purchase instead of insisting on getting it for the marked price. I wouldn't feel right about taking advantage of an employee's mistake like that.

 

No doubt the cashier was rude, and she shouldn't have been. I just don't let inconsequential stuff like that bother me.

 

Honestly, do you think you're acting rationally here?

1. Your husband pities the CSR you talk to on the phone, so apparently you're going to go off on someone who was entirely unrelated to the situation.

2. You're considering canceling your Target accounts because of the actions of one employee.

 

It's a bit of an overreaction. It's not like she kicked your dog...

I dont think she is overreacting at all. If she did nothing and just let it go, no telling how many other customers are being treated this way. Like she said, it is not the money it is the principle of it. This employee should be repremanded and should at least be under the watchful eye of their employer. If it werent for customers making light of employees behavior then customers would be mistreated all of the time. I am all for calling cooperate and making a fuss over it. For my own sake! I would hate to be treated that way for ANY reason.

 

As far as the dog comment, I dont own one and not going there.

do you realize that companies are not suppose to discriminate against appearance. Now I have no piercings expect one hole in each ear. But just because some one feels that they look good with 7 in the ear and one in the tongue and one in his or her lips or those big things in the earlobes doesnt mean they can not do a job. Piercings doesn't make a person rude. Was she rude she may have been I wasn't there, Should you have gotten the item not sure on that one, I've been in that boat won some lost some.

I always check the price on the scanner instead of bugging CS or getting up to the reg suprised.

HOWEVER-

If anyone, management or otherwise, talked to me like that, I would have made sure that the GM, the district manager, the district services manager, and the regional vice pres. knew about this person.

I would have stood right there and said, "I think I am going to need to speak to the General Manager about this, so that I can get your district manager's contact information. By the way what is your store number?"

 

I bet she would have started to be nice quick.

 

About the piercing thing- I have tats on my EARS. I am also a manager in a big box retail store and do field work for the corporate offices. However, I want to conform to the image that the company wants to project. I wear (expensive :( ) make up to cover them and my hair down a lot.

 

I can bet that she is going against Targets policies and procedures. Trust me she'll get hers if the DM walks in and sees her, and if she continues to be a PITA to customers.

 

You also may want to make a call to your Attorney General's office about the incorrect pricing and the way that they handled it. You can also call your state or county's Weights and Measures department and request an audit. For every incorrect UPC, tag placement, or bag weight the store gets hit with a hefty fine. You may want to let the GM know you will be calling them. You will get an apology at the very least.

 

It's not just the toilet seat but if they are setting the other planograms carelessly. Their pricing is probably more inconsistent than you think.

I agree totally and I would of wanted the price that it displayed. She wasn't asking for special treatment or anything. I have done the same thing already and never had a problem with them giving it to me for that price.

Your right, they cannot disciminate against appearance. However, companies ARE allowed to have a dress code which can include: Only allowing an employee to wear one set of earrings, tattoos covered up ect... Once again, I personally dont have a problem with it. I just know from experience that employers Can and Will require a dress code that an employee must abide by. If someone goes in to apply for a job all pierced up and the employee does not hire them based on that, then that is discrimination. If an employee gets the job and does not abide by the complanies dress code, then that is their problem for applying for a job that requires a certain dress code, not the companys problem. That was the point I was trying to make.

Also don't quit going to Target or cancel your accounts. One bad experience does not represent the company.

 

Asking someone to take out their piercings is not discrimination. There are EOE guidelines that you need to follow. Tattoos and piercings aren't one of them, sorry. The company has a right to say "take out your piercings or cover your tattoos while you are at work." They are considered adornments.

 

Believe me I have LARGE tattoos all over my body. I have had tons of piercings (even corsets) but there is a time and place for everything. I am cool with that. However large companies like this want everyone to look the same so that they can be easily recognized. That is why they wear UNI forms.

 

I also get upset when I encounter bad customer service. I give everything in me to make sure that customer is happy when they walk out the door, and I won't patronize anywhere that would treat me any other way. But I do know people have bad days and can generally forgive that.
