Wooden swingset

Recommended Posts

I know last year after we moved into our new house, we purchased one from Home Depot for around 700 I think. It comes with most of the stuff you need except for some of the lumber. I believe it was done for about 900 once we were through with it. It has the wavy slide, sandbox underneath, 2 regular swings, round swing, climbing ropes, rock climbing thing up to the tower and some odds and end things. Honestly, I think it was well worth the money. It took a good day to put up with 2 people doing it. It took severeal hours longer then the insturctions said, but I know my DH was thrilled with the end result. We also had it stained to match our back deck and honestly once that was done, it looked like some of the much higher priced ones out there on the market.:yup: Good luck with whatever one you decide on!!

Please, help me find a good deal on a wooden swingset for my ds3. His birthday is in Feb. and he really wants a "playground" for his birthday.

Just wanted to put my two cents in here. We purchased the one from Walmart for $398 last summer. At the time, it was all I could afford, but really wish I had just saved longer and waited, as it is just over a year old and is shot.

I agree about the WalMart specials. We waited and went with a company called Creative playthings. Yes they will be more expensive than the local stores including home depots and stuff, but here's what you pay for. Pre-cut wood, no drilling holes. My swings have a melted plastic over them so the chains don't rust. All screws are completely hidden. No way for a child to cut himself on it. Mine is about 6 years old and I've only treated it once. Set is still in excellent condition and both my boys 8 and 10 are slowly out growing it. So I think even though i spent a little more, I got really good quality that lasted over time. Sometimes that is a bigger deal maker than saving extra money.

Thank you so much for all these helpful ideas. I do want quality. Even if I pay a higher price I think it will be worth the money, because my ds is such an outside child. Please, feel free to keep the ideas coming. I can surely use the input, and it is great to know what has been good quality and what would be only junk.

10 years old, wood set, from Menards..looks same as it did new after a new stain this past summer. The plastic swings, handles, chains are another story. They have faded/rusted after 10 years, but that is going to happen no matter what type of set you have. We have replaced 1 slide (have 2 on the set) because it cracked in the winter when they decided to run up it when it was below 0.

If I remember correctly, we paid about $600 back then, plus what we added over the years...rock climber, rope climber & new slide. Unfortunately, they don't use it as much now as back then. That being said, I would still recommend a wood set that you build yourself.

I searched and found a post I made way back, that included a pic of our set.
