mom2monkiesx3
As previously stated in another thread my dad and I don't have a relationship. He has seen my kids maybe 5 times (the oldest) and has never seen my 4yr old in person. He only lives 3hrs away and has been here in town on several occassions. He always sends my kids giftcards at Christmas and I always am tempted to just mark them return to sender. WELL Monday I recieved both the boys cards and giftcards (they are sent individually) but I still have not gotten DD's. I am not sure if they got lost or if he forgot he had a GD. So what now? My mom (they've been divorced for 10yrs) says to call him and tell him it was lost and he needs to replace it I'd rather not! So now after I have spent WAY to much $$$ I have to run out and get a replacement GC to make up? I am tempted to just keep the giftcards and use them on clothing or something and not ever let them know who sent them ... Can I just take one of DD's gifts and put his name on it?? Even though I don't wanna? WWYD?
Guest mldepalma
Could you use the giftcards to purchase gifts for your children? That way, you can buy 3 gifts using 2 giftcards - and each child receives a gift (which I would assume was his intention if he cared enough to spend the time to get cards to begin with...) If you don't want to call your Dad, then you could jot him a note telling him what each child got... You could mention that only 2 cards arrived and you bought 3 gifts so they would each have one (without leaving anyone out). Good luck...
vsa3janes
I would use the gifts cards to buy gifts for all three. No need to hurt anyones feelings. Then have each kid write a thankyou to him for the gift. You could take a picture of the 3 of them and place it in the envelope with the notes. 2kids-3dogs
I would definately use the two gift cards to buy three gifts, or if it's not enough for three gifts, stick grandpa's name on a gift you got for the 3rd one that didn't get a card (I know you got a TON of stuff from Amazon - I've been reading those posts!). :) I recently found out that my Dad used to get us gifts and put tags on them like they were from my Mom. Wow - the respect I have for him for ignoring his ill feelings towards my mom so that we would not feel bad that she forgot us again - very unselfish! booga12345
I would also take the cards and by 3 gits that you think they would like and tell them the gits were from their grandfather.
mom2monkiesx3
Thanks guys! Not sure what I am going to do yet...maybe I'll wait until Monday to see if it comes. I REALLY don't wanna go to Walmart (the GC are from there) this time of the year but I think I might just go get the CASH and give them all equal amounts of cash and use the GC for household stuff later on (Not like with 3 kids Walmart GC's will go wasted...) I'll have to print out a "faux" card for my DD and slip the cash in it.... Or My DH said to take them all to see Alvin and the Chickmunks tomorrow since they have been DYING to see it and buy them the kids pack and tell them that my dad sent them the "Movie Money" to do that! ? ! Thanks for all your ideas!
lisamag
i agree with everyone else. get them gifts and tell them it's from him and send a note saying they only got 2 and what you got. or put his name on 3 gifts you got already and use the money for some clothes after the holidays when theres a good sale. Thanks for all your ideas!I think that the movie idea is great! We took our boys to see Alvin on Monday and they absolutely loved it. Plus it will give you some time to finish up whatever you have left before X-MAS or better yet to just relax! :)
Promom
I agree. Take the giftcards and buy three presents. That way they will feel special getting something from their Grandfather. My mother was in a nursing home and unable to send gifts to my kids for a few years. My daughter remembered her but not my son, he only knew her from pictures. But every year I went out bought presents, wrapped them with from her on the tag, put them in a big box with a shipping label from her. Then I put the box on the side porch right before they came home from school. They always thought Mema sent them presents. They got so excited. I won't ever tell them the truth. dd50
The other card may show up in a day or two. That happened with my kids a few years ago, my brother sent gift cards and my one daughter didn't get hers and was upset and I said I am sure it will be here soon and thank goodness it came two days later. The movie idea is a great one, my kids saw it last week and loved it. My FIL use to send my 3 kids $100 total for Christmas, a few years ago his wife died then he remarried a year later and started sending $10 total for 3 kids. I felt like sending it back. This year he didn't send anything.
