I have 6 children. I am satisfied with what I have gotten everyone in the family and for 5 of my kids. But not for DS16. I would like to spend between 50 and 80 more dollars.

Here are some ideas I have been thinking on

Cologne (no clue what kind)

Flashlight (can anyone recommend one)

New alarm clock (I am thinking a Smart set but I am open to suggestions)

A mini fridge (I think it would work as a bed side table and he could possibly take it to college with him Fall 08.)

His birthday is two days after Christmas so I am thinking a visa card and a gas card for that.

Any other suggestions??

So far I have bought him

Clothes for everyday

Under Armour Clothes

PSP game

PS2- 2 games

shoes

blue tooth for cell phone

Well, the best quality flashlights I've ever used are the MagLite brand.... Or maybe one of those flashlights that comes with the built-in weather band/ FM radio? Might be something that would come in handy at college if there's a power failure.

The mini-fridge sounds neat, but would you be able to get a good one (i.e. able to withstand the wear & tear) in the $50-80 range?

I was looking at this model.

I will go to home depot and look for the MagLite.

I always pick 2 -3 maglites at Lowes on BF, they are great last minute (oops I forgot) gifts. They have for the last couple of years had all of them for $10. I get the 4 cell ones because they are the heavy duty ones.

Also, they are great for self defense.

The school he is going to will allow a 3.9 so this one is small. His room at home is small though and his bed is a chair futon so I don't want overly tall. I do want him to be able to sotre water bottles and gatorade in it and maybe some yogurts and other snack so you maybe right about the size.

Maglite... small one is good... can fit in a glove compartment or back pack. The camera is a good idea too, or an mp3 player. We all have scandisk mp3 players... and we love them and arent as expensive as the ipod. Also, the windup flashlights are good too. Does he have his own car yet? My husband got me this powerstation thingy that has jumper cables on it and it will jump start a car and has a power outlet on it to charge cell phones and small things. That might be handy if he is going to be away from home. Then he doesnt have to rely on someone if the car battery goes dead.

Sansa Clip 2GB MP3 player -- on sale this week at Best Buy, $44.99:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8553834&st=sansa+clip&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1188561248598

(Also comes in red or blue , just search Best Buy's site for sansa clip). It comes in pink too, but I don't think he'd be interested in that color.

Back when I asked for a list I suggested an MP3 player but he is not interested for some reason.

He is really into exercising and weightlifting, but has equipment, I did think about a good pedometer but not sure what is good

I like the idea of a mini fridge, if you could get one. I know my teenager would use one now--she'd love to be able to keep drinks/snacks in her room. It'd be nice to get it out of the way for college, as you know he'll really use it there.

A camera and flashlight sound good too--

maglite is the best flashlight and you get those at walmart too. Does he have a laptop? If so a messenger style bag to carry it in. a new wallet

He graduates in May so I am thinking a laptop then, and one the grandmas is doing the wallet. I will have to add the bag to graduation ideas

Books?

Hmm this got me to thinking that I could get some books on Wrestling (He wants to try this) Coaching Basketball, and strenth training would be good ideas for books. As far as regular lit goes he has so much required reading for school that even though he likes to read it is hard to find the time.

Maybe stop by a sporting goods store for some ideas along the wrestling/basketball/strength training lines. They also might have good recommendations on books related to these...

I think a mini fridge is a cool present, I won one from mt. dew game in the summer and I am giving it to dd(17) for christmas, both my kids would love one but my ds(14) isnt responcible enough to have a fridge in his room, it would grow mold, lol. I think he has that in there anyway.

I am not sure if this will be Christmas or Birthday (dec 27) but my folks went to see my dad's sister and one of them has a Wii she has decided to return!! Mom called me and I am buying it. I have one for older DS who does not live at home, but had not planned to get DS16 one. Since it practically fell in my lap I think I should do it.

The fridge sounds like a great idea. We bought one at Costco a few months ago for our room and we love it. It drives my son crazy because he wants one, but like happysunshine's son, it would grow mold. lol

It's so hard to buy for kids once they reach 16 and over. I'm getting more gray hair trying to pick up stuff for my dd17. LOL. I had planned on just giving her $$ but she wants stuff to open.

The Visa and gas cards sound like great ideas for his birthday.

Good luck!!
