Amazon Price Adjustment Policy - if they say no via email, then call!

So after reading through the toys threads on the online hot deal forum. I looked back at my orders and found the Call of Duty game I ordered for DH had gone down $10 in price. So I emailed quickly the other day asking for a PA. Then I realized, why not just call?! So I called and within two minutes the lady said I'd get my $10 credit within 1-3 business days.

Later that evening, I received a reply to the email saying:

The discounts we offer on items on our web site do change from time to time. I'm sorry, but we are unable to apply our current discounts to orders which have already been shipped.

Now, according to their terms here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html?ie=UTF8&nodeId=468502#postorder

Specifically this part:

If Amazon.com's price for an already-released item decreases within 30 days after we ship the item to you, we'll be glad to refund the difference in price if you contact us.

So their reply to my email made a lot of sense, huh? LOL. I replied back thanking them (erm, being nice..) but said I already called and actually, according to their site, they do PA's for already shipped items. (FWIW, my item/order followed every other rule they have for PA's anyway) I linked it in my email as well.

I then received this reply:

We're writing to confirm that we have processed your refund for $13.98

for the above-referenced order.

They are supposedly crediting me for not only the $10 price difference but the shipping cost (when I had a trial of Prime and used overnight ship) as well.

It will be interesting to see if I have a total of $23.98 in credit on my CC next week from Amazon. I doubt it but .. :P

Anyway, my point is - with any company really but esp Amazon, if you need a PA - call! I swear, CSR's replying to emails just skim your email and use form replies. I know others here have e'd about PA's only to be told no, but just call and you should get it if your order follows all of their terms. :)

I prefer email over phone too since it seems these days you can not understand half of customer service reps. lol So far, I have really had no problems at all. I am waiting on some adjustments now. I just emailed about another one tonight. I figure if they say no in the first email, I can email and email again. ha ha .... :)

I just had them adjust a price for me on some blankets. $6 back and I went to link through my account and I could choose to have them call me. They did right away and the rep had an accent so I said excuse me a lot but I still got it right away!

I found another item I ordered at the end of Nov. dropped in price by $4.98. I sent an email off and within three minutes I had a reply saying they'd credit me! So it does work sometimes, I'm not saying it doesn't. But for the rare times that a CSR says, "No.." then definitely call. :)

Yep! Sometimes you just have to ask and ask again. That's what happened with a chalkboard I had ordered. Price dropped & I emailed, but by them time they got mt email the price was back up. Ijust kept a close eye on it and the price dropped again even lower that the first drop. Got my PA! YAY! In the last week I think I have gotten about $30 in PA's from Amazon. They have definately won my business. They are so awesome! :)

Thanks so much for bringing this up. I decided to go check stuff I had ordered and seen that the be-bratz dolls are now $10 and $10.97 on Amazon so I requested a price adjustment. I had a email with 2 minutes saying I would be receiving my credit. Yippee. LOL.

And I will add, even if you are told/emailed that you will get your price adjustment, do NOT assume that it will get done and then forget about it. Always check your account (whichever account they say they will credit), just keep in mind it usually takes a few days for the PA. This holds true for ALL companies, not just Amazon.

also, if you get a wrong answer once,,,,call again and see if you get a different rep. I just called sears to cancel an order on which I made a mistake (realized it about 2 minutes after I sent the order). The first rep kept telling me there was no way it could be changed or cancelled. So I gave up but called right back...the next rep cancelled it with no problem, but just told me it would be about 3 hours before I would get the confirmation.

I have more to add!

I ordered DH an item on Amazon at the end of Nov as I said. It was $29.97. I kept checking 1-2x per day quickly to see if it'd drop in price. It dropped this morning around 4am. I had just checked 4-5 hours before and it wasn't that low! So I PA'd, right? I just checked the item 7 hours after the PA and it's back up to $29.97.

So it pays to take a second to check items when you're on Amazon's site anyway. :)

Question I called got a price adjustmdo I also receive an email confirming that?

Yes you should.

I called about my PA last night, and never got an email, nor did it show on my Invoice. So I called this afternoon, and the guy did it right. I got an email confirmation within 20 minutes and it shows on the invoice, though it takes 2-3 days to actaully receive. HTH

One hint on checking your stuff for price adjustments at Amazon: After you buy something,,, put another one of the same item into in your "saved for later" list. That way every time you access your cart you can see how much it currently is easily without checking each item individually every time.

Great idea. Thanks.
