My mom went all out this year and bought me and DH very expensive watches. Or atleast I know for certain she bought DH a very expensive watch. She spent like 600.00 on him alone.

I have a feeling she bought one for me too. and she wants to spend a 100.00 each on both kids.

My dad pasted away almost 2 years ago and my mom now spend christmas at my house.

Dh and I were talking. I didn't tell him what she got him, but I told him that she spent way to much. She said that she could afford it and loves Dh very much.

We always have a lot of gifts under the tree to open up. Dh and I buy each other some small things, so everyone is opening tons of gifts.

We want to do the same thing for my mom. She doesn't expect us to spend anywhere near the same amount on her as she did us, she did this only out of love for us.

I was able to get a great pair of earrings from Sears on BF, they were already clearenced, plus like 80% off.

I bought her a Yankee candle at TJ Maxx.

I got her a nice set of sheets.

And I bought her a new chopper because hers broke right before Thanksgiving.

What else can you think of? I want to buy nice things that don't cost to much. I do not have a set amount to spend. I just want to get her a few more things.

What else should I buy?

Does she have any favorite older movies that she would enjoy on Dvd? John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Katherine Hepburn?

If you aren't sure of names of movies, but know the actor or actress you can try and look the movies up on imdb.com

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000031/ This links to Katherine Hepburn.

Does she have a scrapbook of pictures of you and your family? I'm sure she would enjoy it a lot.

What about movie passes for her and a friend (or grandkids) or giftcard to a restaurant that she likes. My mil still meets 2 of her girl friends on Fridays for lunch and a movie, or lunch and then they go back to one of their homes to play cards. We usually give her a giftcard to a spot they like and my bil gives her a movie pass. She could pay for these things but she has tons of perfume etc and buys clothes that she likes when she sees them....

DD4 made the gradmas Aprons with her handprints on them and she wrote grandma on it with a paint pen, she also wrote I love you on it. I got the aprons and paints from Micheals using the 40% off coupons.

When my kids were little we would take them to the dollar tree to pick stuff out for grandparents and then they would "wrap it" these were sometimes really strange but the grandparents loved it.

Other suggestions: a pretty throw, BBWs, gloves and scarf (if it is cold where you are) Coupons for yard work or other chores you or DH are willing to do for her. A nightgown, pjs or robe.

She really does not have any hobbies. Never been to a spa and does not want to go. She's a great cook, but has everything she needs.

She has never touched a computer.

Ok, you are looking for something that reminds her she is loved - right? How about a something of the month club?

Chocolate, wine, beer, flower, book, whatever she likes - they probably have an "of the month" club, so she will be reminded all year?

Ok... she cooks... how about some Paula Dean cookbooks... does she like to try new things... get her a subscription to taste of home magazine.... and put a card in a gift basket.... saying what you got her... and then fill the basket with funky, odd, cooking gadgets... lol.. I got my mil a mango slicer and a box of sonic straws for her stocking...

ROLFMAO.... Yes... Sonic Straws... she has a germ phobia thing... but loves wrapped straws... like the ones you get from Sonic... because they are heavier... and dont crack as easy as the bag of straws from Walmart.... and they are wrapped.... I bought them from the cute little car hop... they charged me $3.00 for the box... and I tipped her the other $2.00. She was tickled pink... lol... I cant wait to give them to mil... she will crack up... this is the same lady I gave a cow skull to one year... lol... she likes weird stuff..

How about a really nice holiday outfit? Your mom sounds a lot like mine (got her a GC for a massage one year-- she never used it!), and last year I found a very nice shirt-jacket and skirt set, one I knew she'd like but would never buy for herself. I gave it to her and told her it was for her to wear on New Year's, even though I knew she'd only be at my uncle's house that night and wouldn't even be staying up late. :) She really loved it! I think the original price was around $90 but I paid between $40 and $50 on clearance at one of the bigger department stores (Sears or JCPenneys, I think).

And I have to agree with the idea of a scrapbook or something similar. Does she have some favorite old pictures that are getting in rough shape or that she'd enjoy having enlarged and framed? My mom has a large black and white picture of her family taken when she was a teenager, and one of these days I plan to take it to a professional and have pale colors added to it (like the pictures of the little kids dressed in old grown-up clothes on the front of some greeting cards). I even managed to get her to tell me once what colors each of them were wearing that day and have it written down to use...

HTH!! :)

Maybe get her a mug with a pic of her and your Dad from Kodak Gallery.com. My Mom is getting a personalized license plate for her car with the nickname my kids call her on it. MIL is getting a mug with a pic of DH and our two kids on it, a new cordless phone, a massager to put in her chair, and something else that I already forgot LOL!! THe cordless phone was the kids' idea, they want to leave her sweet messages when she's not home. THink out of the box, you're sure to come up with something.

Good luck!

Does she have old movies you could transfer to dvd? My cousin did this for her Dad and he loved it. She found a local company that specialized in just this and it didn't cost much at all.

Does she like animals? My DM & DSD started bird watching this year (in their backyard). I bought them a great dvd called Winged Migration (2001)

Starring: Philippe Labro, Jacques Perrin Director: Jacques Perrin Rating Amazon has it for $9.99 and it is an amazing video. Even for non-bird watchers.

They also have the Planet Earth series which is exceptional. Maybe you could do a basket with the dvds, some popcorn, candy and her favorite drink.

One of the best gifts I ever got was a pic of me and oldest son on a mug!! It's seven years old and faded, but it still brings a smile to my face.

and since she obviously loves you and your family so much, how about a photo calendar where you can do pics of your family, dad, etc on the correct months of the year.. like if it's someone's bday they get their picture on that month, at Christmas find a favorite christmas photo from another Christmas for December, etc....

We did a photo book for my sister one year with pics of my first granddaughter (her first great neice) and left captions and went from her birth to current at the end and she LOVES it.... so that might be nice too, a rembrance book of holidays with dad or a fun book with fun photos of the kids.
