Looking for an equivelent to the now dead Inspiron 6000 deal on the dell page

A friend is looking for a laptop for his wife, and that Inspiron 6000 deal would have been perfect -- right price range, etc.

 

Any others like this?

I wish I had known sooner, Office Depot had a Compaq R3000Z for $399 AR but it expired 3/8

 

What are the minimum specs and price range they're looking for?

 

It can be done for around $749 plus sales tax.

I've got the R3000. It's a decent computer for work, but any gaming on it will show it's problem: There's no heat-diffusal for the GPU, so any mild 3D processing will make it freeze.

The Dell i6000's CPU wasn't that great either. Personally I'd prefer the R3000Z's CPU in a Dell i6000 chasis.

Well, the R3000 has great cooling on the CPU, it's the Graphics processor that is not cooled.

 

I noticed that the i6000 looks nearly identical to the r3000, though -- it wasn't a joint thing between Compaq and Dell was it?

It wouldn't surprise me as there are a handful of OEM's who manufacture the worlds leading laptops.
