80gb Ps3 Vs 60gb Ps3

Recommended Posts

Am I missing something? They are priced the SAME. I got the 60GB for my 9yr old because that is all the store had at the time. I KNEW I didn't want the 40GB that everyone was pushing because it was not backwards compatible according to the playstation website...

So can anyone tell me the differences (besides the obvious 20GB) and why they are priced the same? Is the 60GB more compatible with PS2 games? (A review on Bestbuy.com lead me to believe that)

Should I call and see if the store I bought it at has the 80GB and trade up? It will be used by my 9yr old and his friends for JUST gaming, maybe to watch the occasional Blu-Ray. I am clueless if you can't tell :cheesy: I HATE to dig it out from behind the Christmas Tree and unwrap it to take back but I WILL :yup:

Thanks a ton to all the gamers out there!!

By the way anyone have a review on the Black Friday Walmart Game rocker with speakers I got them too!?!?!

Well I dont know if you have time or a 24 hour Walmart but at 11:59 pm tonight the secret sale for the PS3 ends. Why is it important? if you purchase the 80gb model, you get the Motorstorm game packed in AND you get 10 free blu-ray movies provided they are $30 or less. You also get a mail in rebate for 5 more movies. Even if your son doesnt watch the movies, you can easily sell them for around $20 a pop (provided you pick the right ones) and buy your son some more games.

I think you are in New Mexico so you should still have time so get in that car and make sure you print out the limited edition sale on the PS3 from today !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Basicly playstation in order to cut costs made version with a smaller(40gig) hard drive and without the software needed to play the playstation 2 games.

Then they discontiuned the mid range 60 gig version i belive and dropped the prices on the 80 gig version.

Basicly they are no differences in the 60 and 80 gig versions besides the hard drives.

Sony has been beind the Xbox 360 and Wii in console sales so they decided to make a lower cost version to ramp up sales.

Thanks guys. My walmart is closed! *they changed our 24hr one because they couldn't keep enough employee's to run it. I do have the order form to get the other free ones and will definitely get it sent in.

So it really is just the 20GB difference. Don't you think that my son will be fine with the 60GB I know it really isn't the best DEAL...

I forgot to add that I got the 60GB with the Kmart 20% coupon so I saved $100 and then got a kmart giftcard to use later ;) But if I call and they have the 80GB I JUST MIGHT be exchanging them equal one for the other....

Thanks again for helping a clueless mom out!!! My son is only 9 and already has outgrown my video game knowledge!

:fluffy:

The 60 gb has the best backwards compatability. That is the 1 I would have gotten. Also on new models some went from 4usb connections down to 2.

Thanks THAT is what I was reading on Best Buy, it didn't seem to make sense to me so I was unsure! THAT is important to us since my son has probally 200 PS and PS2 games!!

THANKS!!!! You made my decision for me!! :)

Also keep in mind that if your tv supports 1080 (i or p), the PS3 will look super. I'm running a Wii & a PS3, so I bought a Hi Def Switcher to avoid the kids plugging, and unplugging and plugging and ..... again and again. Hope I didn't confuse anyone. The switcher allows either manual or auto (model dependent) switching between all of your devices, whatcha got plugged into it. El cheapo's (sears & bbuy - $40 but are not hi def but from what I understand this is NOT a must have!!!!)
