We had that too at ours here in Cambridge, OH. Picked one up... not sure how many they had, we just decided to stop in since it was an empty lot, about 7am. That was only thing we bought. It has a built in camera and mic and has Vista home edition installed. Overall it is a really nice laptop!!

My girlfriend and I just purchased two of the $388 laptops. They were Dell Inspiron 1501 with 2 gb ram, 120 hd, Dual-core, dvdrw, etc. I believe them to be excellent buys. The receipt states that regular price is $750. Our store only had three of them and we purchased one a piece. My experience with Walmart was very pleasant. I got there at 1:00 am and picked up an X box, several games and tv seasons, and odds and ends. We purchased our big ticket items and then went up front for a massive amount of price matching. Beats sitting in the cold for 13 hrs like I did last year at BB, only to NOT get the laptop I wanted... I hope everyone's BF was as pleasant as ours.

Has dual core processor, and a lot of other stuff I can't see at the moment. We had 15. All rang up 598 regular price. It took till 5:15 to get a manager to come do a price over ride on EACH one of them.

There were 4 different models to chose from, actually. One was a Dell, one was an HP bundle leftover from back to school, and there were 2 different Toshibas. Not all stores had all models, so it just depended on what your store had in stock. We had a lot of the Dells and HP's but only a handful of the Toshibas.

Well it's over with now. Only till 11am

Was the Secret Sale prices only until 11AM? I didn't see a time frame.

I just stopped in to our Walmart to check out the laptops knowing full well the $388 ones were long gone.

I asked if there were going to be any Secret Sale laptops tomorrow and I was told there were no laptop special prices today. I said, yes, there were $388 laptops today. Another employee looked thru the ad and said they didn't have any $388 laptops. I proceeded to tell them it was part of the Secret Sale. Meanwhile I noticed there was a Dell 1501 Inspiron behind the counter (where the cash registers are - it wasn't locked up like the laptops they had) and I asked about it. A third employee said it was $598, it is not the one on sale, and all of the sale ones are gone.

Is the $388 Dell a 1501 Inspiron? I would love to get that for $388. I don't know how I could prove to them it is the one on sale though. Of course there's always the chance they will tell me the Dell is behind the counter because it is being held for someone.

What do you think?

TIA

I'd get back out there. See if you can print a copy of the sale from the website. That way you can show them the brand names.

It doesn't say actually in the ad that it was a Dell 1501 (or whatever) It just says it can be a dell, toshiba, or HP with minimum specs of.....

That could easily be shot down. But still they are only obligated to honor the blitz stuff 5am to 11 am as in the paper and online says...

Never hurts to try ( and cry!)

What a JOKE and what a waste of my time - Yes, I was informed about the $388 Notebooks on the Walmart Secret Sale but NONE of the employees at Walmart were familiar with it, even though all employees were quick to tell you that they were "sold out". I personally went to one store and they had 4 of the Toshibas that were part of the "secret sale for $388" but the Assistant Manager refused to honor that price because she said that "Walmart only sold ONE at that price from each store."; Please.

I think the philosophy that made Walmart what it has become has long been forgotten. They no longer hold the customer in high esteem; nor do they educate their employees.

Kinda fed up with Walmart.

PS - I even took a copy of someone else's receipt with the item number for the identical Toshiba with the price adjustment, and they still said their "Walmart had sold ONE at the secret sale price" and any others would be full price.

I went to my wal-mart last night, and they had about 25 Dell 1501's and about 75 Toshibas sitting on a cart, and was told the price was $598. I'm assuming those were the $398 laptops from earlier in the day. The Toshiba had 2 GB Ram and 120 GB HD, not bad at all, even for $598.

We stood in line for over an hour, than argued with them about the price being $388 but they wouldn't listen, so we just left. I wish I had printed the ad.

Amen to that, I wish I had printed the ad also! Live and learn I guess. My Walmart didn't know what I was talking about. I was so upset. I wrote corporate a letter, probably won't do any good but wanted them to know that I was one of the ones that defended them and chose their store first and could have gone to CC or BB....never again!

does anyone have a link to the secret sale list?? Our WM had the Dell 1501 but was charging everyone $598. This was the only laptop they had. Someone in the store had said they were the $388 ones but WM didn't let anyone get them for $388 that we found. They were all selling them for $598, and we checked with several people after they had checked out. They had a pallet of them (at least 20)...so if they weren't the special priced ones why would they get so many?? I am wanting to go back to WM and argue with them and make them honor the sales price that they weren't honoring at the time they were supposed to be selling it for that special price.

That is the one that was on the special secret deal because I got one for $388. My WM had 4 Dell 1501 and the rest were toshiba. I picked up the Dell. I was the first in line so I got to choose which one I wanted.:yup:

I was in line at 1:30 am in a CT store and the same ordeal happened up here! They actually said it didn't matter if you were there from 1 or there at 5, there was no line. Then they said they did not have any laptops for 388, which was crap because we pulled it up on the computer there right at the checkout desk. At 530, they finally could ring one up and it said 598 and the refused to sell it for 388. I came home around 9 and called 1 800 walmart just to ask what the deal was and which laptop was supposed to be at 388, they said they would have someone get in touch with me. ABout 1 hour later, the store manager called me and said he had a Dell 1501 there for me at $388. He said that this whole Secret Sale is new to them and they were confused. I just think they need better organization. I am happy with my laptop though!!!!!:D

Was back at WM today and asked again about which laptops had been the $388 special. Apparently my store didn't sell a single one at that sale price. Nobody in electronics knew what I was talking about. I really think WM ought to make sure their stores know about any secret sales. I know it was a doorbuster sale item..but come on..if you don't have ANY at that price or knew NOTHING about the sale then you ought to make good on the deal later. We asked repeatedly during the blitz time..NOBODY knew anything about them and even today nobody knew anything about any $388 laptops. If you aren't gonna sell it...don't advertise it! :(

The crap shouldn't be so secret from the stores that they do not have time to educate the employees. They dropped yet another ball this week!

Amen, brother! I work in home entertainment at my store and the only way I knew the items was by researching them myself through the company's Intranet.

BTW, was talking with my dept. manager this morning about the laptops. Here is the deal on the Dell laptops, as I understood it: We sell 3 different models. One of them is on recall and can't be sold even if we had them -- it was the one that was supposed to be on sale for $388; one is $598 (as advertised special); and there was also one for $798 or so (regular item).

Apparently, the deal was also valid on several more laptops than was advertised. Ie, we did Sony VAIO's as well at my store.

Can you tell us the difference between the three different Dells? I got an inspiron 1501, I wouldnt think this would be the one that was recalled...

Let me get more information on that so I can confirm what I was told is correct.

If you were able to purchase one on Friday, either the recall was lifted or you bought one of the other models not affected. It had a sales restriction placed on it preventing the register from ringing it up.

Took some digging, but here is the original post that I read about a recall on some of the $388 computers.... Just a FYI. Keep it safe this Holiday season!

at our store we were having a problem selling the dell computer when we went to scan it at check out it would say do not sell. That usually comes up when something has been recalled but when we scanned it with the telezon it did not say anything about a recall. That is probably why they were still there they were not be able to be checked out. We then handkeyed it so the lady could buy hers today but it was highly recommended that she call Dell to make sure it was not recalled. You do have 14 days with receipt to take back computers. So really we have no idea what was going on with the Dell desktop. I think they were going to call home office.
