mrn8
What should I look for in a good shredder? I always feel bad just throwing bills away, so I've been taking it to work and shredding. Well, they just said no more personal shredding here, so I need to find something that isn't too expensive but still will be reliable.
RossMAN
We recently bought a shredder and it's been great shredding our financial documents :) What's your budget?
mrn8
I would say <$50 would be a good place to start.
RossMAN
Slightly over your budget but this isn't an entry level shredder and is quite powerful. Staples.com offers a shredder for $54.94 after rebate. # Medium Duty# Shreds credit cards# Auto Start and stop# Convenient one hand operation
RossMAN
Here is a significantly cheaper shredder for $19.99 after rebate but it's light duty and doesn't handle staples.
mrn8
That first one is actually $34.94 after rebate. There is a $15 instant and a $20 easy rebate. Thanks for the info!

mrn8
I did. Awesome deal. Wow! I love Staple's online rebate submission. I'm already done with it, and I didn't even have to waste a stamp.
RossMAN
Staples Easy Rebates are great, although CostCo has been doing that for a while. Congratulations on your new shredder, what kind of stuff will you be shredding?
mrn8
Statements, bills, etc...Mostly stuff that I have access to online and they still send me paper bills. Also, stuff like old phone bills and CC apps. Oh, and ... evidence... I love that it can shredd CCs, too. I never know just how to get rid of those. RossMAN
I love that it can shredd CCs, too. I never know just how to get rid of those.I can't recall if our Fellowes shredder ($79.99) from CostCo can handle cc's or not, it does staples just fine. What sucks is they tend to overheat quite easily so after 100 sheets you should call it quits for the day.
Aaron
Fellowes, what a great company-- they make just about everything. I think I might pick me up one of those shredders too! How many pages did you say it could shredd? I broke mine the other day trying to shredd too much, gezz..
mrn8
It says 7 pages

The Staples shredder is half the price, I'd go for that.
Aaron
CostCo, I never would of guessed that they had that-- oh wait, they have everything
Guest beatmix01
I hope it was a cross-cut shreader.
