How big is your Turkey?

I cooked the Turkey once in 10 years. Everyone said it turned out good, but noone has asked me to do it again!!!!:tongue1:

My Mom always did one and so did my MIL. Now that Daddy is no longer with us, I get my Mom to come over to MIL's and everyone has a blast.

There are Dh and me and our 2 kids, Dh's twin brother and his wife and their 2 kids, and dh's other brother, his wife and their 2 kids. There is Granny, MIL's sister and her 3 kids. Plus MIL's other sister comes over and her DH with their 2 older kids.

And we can't forget about my MIL and FIL.

It alot of fun!

I don't even know if I'm getting one this year... too much trouble to go through for just 4 of us. Might just do a turkey breast this year if DH really wants turkey ("it's only once a year," he says).

Of course with Meijer's current deal (buy the roaster that's on sale, get a turkey up to $25 and a chef's knife free) I may still end up with a turkey :)

We go to my parents' house, but I did buy a 21 lb turkey because the local grocery store had a sale, if you spend $50 you get a turkey for $0.29/lb. Cost me $6.xx for a 21 lb turkey!! But dh and the kids like for me to cook one so they can eat it while I'm shopping on bf! So I'll probably cook it the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

I thought that way last year about a ham. There were only going to be six of us. My nephew wanted a ham really bad. I held my ground. If he bought it, I would fix it. He didn't think that was fair(He is 24). Afterwards, I felt bad. It did cause bad feelings. Hubby and I stay at their house when we are in town. This year I will buy a big turkey and a ham and chalk the cost of it up to good will.:1cook:

I have 2 13lb turkeys in the freezer. When we used to do the big Christmas lunch at my house my husband suffered from turkey envy. He went to the store and got the biggest turkey they had (more than 26 lbs). We had to strap it in the booster seat to get it home! I wish I had pictures!! Now a smaller turkey does well for us.

I just picked up my "free" 25 lb turkey the other day. Our local supermarkets have this thing where if you buy $300 worth of groceries over a 6 week period you qualify for a free store brand turkey. If you want a Butterball (like I did) then they deduct 99 cents off per pound. The Butterballs are on sale for $1.29 a pound, so I ended up only pay around $6.00! I'm a happy bird!

We had our "Thanksgiving" last Sat. We had a 12lb turkey Jennie-O Oven Ready, I love them ever since I did that Buzz last year, LOL.

We are only a family of 4, so 12lbs was enough, plus we had left overs.

The big family Thanksgiving is on Thanksgiving day at my parent's house and I have no idea how big the turkey is...LOL It's big..LOL

I feel so lost this year. This is the first year ever that Thanksgiving will not be at my house. I am flying out to see the in laws so they are taking care of all the food...

I am really going through withdrawals already (I love to cook!) I am even making a pumpkin pie this week to help me through it ;)

I get the biggest turkey I can find in the store, usually 20+ lbs. We will have 13 for T-day, that I know of anyway (dh's family members like to show up sometimes). Dh cooks t-day dinner, including dessert, I just help with a few things, and of course I get the joy of the inevitable cleanup.
