Otartel.com - LEGIT??

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...
I ordered gift cards at the beginning of November. They cashed my check, sent me out a message saying the gift cards were shipped and nothing. When I check the tracking number provided, it states that USPS was notified of a possible shipment on 11/8/07. It's now 11/26/07 and I haven't received a thing! I just filed a claim with the BBB but I'm hoping they make good on the gift cards or a refund because the BBB doesn't have any complaints on file. I'm not sure what to make of this company but I would advise against using them.

Funny I just heard about this website yesterday. I googled it and found some not great reviews from people. There were people buying large gift certificates but they were coming in smaller denominations and sometimes partly missing. Like 3- $25 ones for $100. I decided to skip it. But I have bought some decent promotional codes (1 time use things) off ebay for pretty cheap.

Be Aware!!!!. I ordered several cards on Oct 18, 2007. And they gave a track# several days after my check was cleared. It took them about 3 weeks to finally ship SOMETHING out after they posted the track#. Then I checked the USPS website and found it showed it was "undeliverable". I called USPS immediately and they said the package didn't have an identifiable delivery address and was returned to the sender. I called Otatel several times and was only able to leave messages and no response from Otartel. Then I emailed them and finally they emailed me back, saying they would resend it or refund me. Then 2 days later, they emailed me saying my order was canceled "per your request". I emailed them and told them I never requested to cancel the transaction... Then they never returned my phone call message or emails. Now it has been about more than 1 week, and I am still trying to talk to CS of Otartel. But they just don't reply my phone message or email. I am going to wait for another 2 days, then I will talk to my attorney and will file a lawsuit against them for sure.

I paid more than 700 bucks to get into such a stupid mess...

I guess they would steal the money if the transaction amount is larger than several hundreds...So you might get the cards if you make a smaller payment...

Meanwhile, please be aware when you pay some strange sellers via your check but not credit card!!!!

Don't use this site. I had success with them a couple of times in the past but my last order says it was shipped (overnite supposedly) and that was 2 weeks ago. They will now not answer messages or emails. My last order was for over $3,000. I'm not sure what I can do about it. I've contacted BBB and have the # to the Attorney General. I've threatened to sue them.

Please let me know if anyone has recent info about this company. Thanks

Gary

Go to their "marketplace" link on the website, it is full of complaints of non-ship now. I wonder if they ran as a "legit" business for a few months, got people pulled in, then started taking the money and not delivering, waiting as long as possible before the feds come before taking down the site & sending all $$$ overseas.

Thank you for posting this information. This site is exactly what I was looking for, until I read the reviews here. I think that gift cards should sell for less than the face value as we are paying money before we receive the goods. What galls me are the cards that charge more money than face value for the card.

Hi,

I got screwed as well out of $356 and would like to be kept informed on what is going on. My email is [email protected] and my name is Angie. The # on the site says the # is temporarily unavailable, which is funny, because I called and left a message last night. They haven't responded to the emails I have sent lately. At first, they said I had to wait 24 days after the item was shipped (supposedly the 3rd of November). I contacted them after the 24 days and haven't heard back. Ridiculous!

Otartel is a scam site. I sent in $473, the check cleared my Bank, and I have never received my gift cards. I have left many emails/voicemails. No one ever returns my calls. Don't send money into them, it's as good as giving it away. By the way, their phone number is "out of order".

Many people are posting complaints about this scam artist company. I have complained to the authorities (FBI, Attorney General, USPS).

I hope this person ends up behind bars.......

# is out of order now and so is website! I tried to cancel my check today but it is already cashed. I guess I got scammed. I made a complaint with BBB. I guess FBI should be next on my list. I am sure I will never see a penny. I am upset about the $84 but there are others I read who lost 1,000's.

I purchased a link to otartel.com from an ebay seller and ordered 2 $100 Starbucks cards for which I sent the required check for $170 on 11/5/07. After emailing them to ask why their website still showed only "payment received" when my bank showed the check had been cashed, I received an email on 11/14/07 indicating that the cards would be shipped on 11/23. As of 12/7, no cards or responses to my emails have been received other than the webmaster note on my returned email, indicating that their mailbox is full. I've filed complaints with the postal authorities through the usps.com website and the New York Attorney General's consumer protection division (google New York Attorney General for URL) and I recommend that course of action to all others who've experienced similar treatment. The more complaints that are filed, the greater likelihood of something being done to stop this.

This is a guide to all on how websites that sells gift cards scam people. Scammers register a company by contributing a certain amount of money. Lets say the scammer puts in $10,000. The company then starts selling discounted gift cards, lets say in the amount of $100,000 at a 10% discount by funding that discount from that $10,000 original contribution. Those same buyers who made those initial purchases then later sends in more money typically at volumes 100 times more (millions of dollars) than their first purchases assuming that since their first purchase was safe then their second purchase will be safe as well. The company scammers then cash out the money and leave the country.
