coleman4905 Posted October 26, 2007 Share Posted October 26, 2007 Ok so i do count the clothes as gifts so my kids may get 15-20 gifts,..I do a box with cute undies, bras, socks, etc...for the girls, and cool boy undies, beaters, etc..for teh boys,..plus several outfits in boxes...each kid may get 4 or 5 new outfits plus there box of unders..this is from mom and dad and wrapped i gues just so they have something extra to open,..my aunt doesnt wrap clothes she always said who wants to unwrap clothes?? me i do !! i like to unwrap!! The clothes they get at Christmas are always more about fashion over function, anyway. Both of mine have to wear uniforms to school, so they love getting the *cool* stuff. My 10 year old loves clothes and is at the stage where toys mean nothing as she soesnt play with them, If its bought and isnt needed at the moment then its wrapped and counted. They know I do this and look forward to their clothes every year sometimes they even tell me what outfit they want me to get and they are 18,12,8,7,6,3. doublehsmom Posted October 26, 2007 Share Posted October 26, 2007 I give my kids clothes, and I do count them as gifts..I have found out more that my kids love to get the clothes with characters on them rather than just an outfit from old navy or gap but they don't mind right now I think that their main thinking on this is to just open then gifts they are only 4,2.. The older they get the more they actually want more clothes for Christmas even if they don't need them. Also, my DGD3 wants clothes already and as far back as I can remember she has ooohhhed and aaahhhed over clothes and how cute they are. Many times if I know a family doesn't have a lot of money for extras and I am getting gifts, whether Christmas or a birthday we've been invited to, I will say "I don't know about you but my kids have way too many toys, is there any kind of clothes they need?" People look at me as practical but a lot of parents appreciate it. and a PP said something about us being responsible to provide clothes, true.. but Christmas isn't supposed to be all about fun... it's the true spirit and meaning and giving gifts to others, whether clothes toys or movies or whatever.... once we feel "obligated" to only get toys, wish lists, etc. it really puts a lot of unneeded stress on the givers. We should give because we WANT to and we should give things we WANT to give... otherwise it just isn't as much fun to fill up the floor under the tree.. I have a hard time with basketball starting in January, so of course they need new shoes and shorts, warm ups, you name it. My home often looked like a sports clothing store with 2 highschool kids & 2 lil boys and their ball gear. I wrap those but don't really count them. When they were younger I didnt get them clothes for christmas but they are teens and only want certain brands so yes they are presents. I think when the kids are older then I will count the clothes as the gifts, they will actually appreciate getting them because they will be picking it all out. chilimak Posted October 26, 2007 Share Posted October 26, 2007 I usually get the 3 younger kids new pjs for Christmas and they open them on Christmas eve so they can wear them to bed that night. Its become a tradition carried on from when I was a kid. Other than that, I don't usually give clothes as gifts as I tend to shop for clothes year round on good sales. Like a pp said, a $50. hoodie is a gift. But everyday clothes from most stores I don't really do as gifts. Not yet anyway with my kids 10, 8, and 5. Something she didn't see before or something she wanted but may have been out of my price range. Now my DGD loves clothes too. DS wants UnderArmour so it will be a gift and he wants a North Carolina NCAA basketball shirt and shorts so those will be a gift too.(If I can find them) DD wants clothes to and the outfits she showed me were on the average $40 a piece so they too are gifts. But I did buy my 12 yr old Ohio State sleeper pants and matching slippers (put away). My daughter has way too many clothes. She mainly gets toys from us. My mom though buys her socks and underwear.
