Best time to buy a car?

Ok all, I need your opinion. We are in the market for a new car - actually used (probably 2006) and am wondering what the best time of year is to make this purchase. I haven't bought a car in about 6 years so am a little rusty on the entire process.

I'm not sure it will make a difference when buying used. My friend who works for Diamler-Crystler says to buy new cars in the fall for the most inscentives. We are buying in the next month or so tho.

Thank you so much for posting this thread. It has really helped me out.

I'm hoping that I will make out pretty well. I will have the loan through the credit union and I will not have a trade-in. I will only have to negotiate the price of the car. Sort of feeling that I'm already ahead!
