Costco membership - free for a year?

Is there any way to get a free one year membership to Costco other than when they have a brand new store opening up?

From what I've been reading on the internet, it seems that whenever they open a new store, they offer a free one year membership if you sign up....I happened to miss the one here in Brandon, FL...they opened up a store here last year. Just thought I'd ask if there were any other promotions?

I sure wish they'd open one near me. I am tired of the lousy customer service at Walmart.

They had a booth at the local mall, signing people up BEFORE the grand opening...I didn't see any advertising anywhere other than word of mouth...not even the newspaper, which we get everyday...but then again, maybe I missed an issue in there somewhere.
