candall
Hi All, Why are widescreens all the rage? Are you guys really out there watching DVD's in 16:9 miniature on your laptops? I use my laptop every day for several hours and I drag it back and forth between home and office. I don't really care how much it weighs if the screen can just be big enough for me to read without squinting. I bought a widescreen last time but returned it immediately since the shorter screen turned out to be much smaller for emails and web-surfing space. Increasing the font size only decreases the amount of information on the screen even more. So: internet, email and photographs are my main computer purposes. Don't care about weight--I just want a big squarish screen. I guess if I had some burning capability, I'd work with some of my digital camera movies. I use wireless when in the car. Hoping for under $1000. Oh, and here's kind of a funny thing: I don't even know what to call "not widescreen" to do searches. Thanks so much for any help or suggestions or (yay!) deals anyone has for me. Best, Candall

I do all the time... When you watch a 16:9 DVD on a widescreen laptop, you don't get black bars... Oh, and here's kind of a funny thing: I don't even know what to call "not widescreen" to do searches. Thanks so much for any help or suggestions or (yay!) deals anyone has for me.Try searching for XGA. XGA is the "non-widescreen" version you are looking for. You want to stay away from screen descriptions like WXGA, WSXGA, WUXGA, etc. Read this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/XGA The Lenovo Thinkpad "R" series would work for you. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087¤t-category-id=52A252555D554F338EB4B3178B3B6554 Or, the Lenovo 3000C would work: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/catalog.workflow:category.details?current-catalog-id=12F0696583E04D86B9B79B0FEC01C087¤t-category-id=BEEC8C6BD4B648BFA0A074AEC15C3E7C A few of the "R" series are $75 off through 12-11 and have 512MB RAM upgrade. They are also offering free shipping.

Best,CandallLOL to your "boot up" joke! http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/LOL/laugh21.gif If you get the "R" or "T" series, you get that "IBM" stamp on the palmrest and brilliant red trackpad buttons will definitely stand out when you use it at your local coffee shop. http://s23.photobucket.com/albums/b399/Marcster2005/Smileypad/Drink/lovecoffee.gif There's something "old-school-cool" about using an IBM (one of the oldest computer manufacturers out there). BTW, the Lenovo "3000 series" are simply labeled as Lenovo.
