mcampers
Ok, I am a little confused with an item on Overstock.com. It has a listing for some bulk coffe that was listed for 449.99, and now is 67.99. If I am reading the description right, I would recieve a total of 30 8.8 oz. bags of coffee for a total of 264 oz. I guess I am curious if I am doing the math right, as I cannot see how they could have been charging over a $1.70 an ounce based on the original pricing of $449.99. Would someone actually pay that much, or this just a made-up price to make it look like a good deal? Am I just not seeing something here? Sorry for no link and the copy/paste, when I try to insert a link it says I don't have enough posts. This means that our growers receive fair payments for their product. In the past, income generated from the coffee trade often failed to cover the cost of production, which lead to debt and bankruptcy for some producers. The Fair Trade process works to correct this unfair system, and helps to control intensive coffee farming that may lead to pesticide pollution or damaged soil. With the profits generated from receiving fair wages, coffee growers more actively participate in the economy and provide better education and health care for their families and communities. * Fair Trade product * Dark roast * 100-percent Colombian coffee beans * Grown, hand-picked, roasted, and packaged in Colombia by skilled and knowledgeable growers * Rich taste and aroma * Coffee is packaged in 8.80-ounce bags * Three 8.80-ounce bags are packaged in an attractive burlap sack * 10 burlap sacks per bulk pack for a total of 30 8.80-ounce bags
mywarmbluefleece
Fair trade coffees pay workers enough money to support their families on, instead of paying them pennies a day which is probably why it was so expensive in the first place. Here is some information on fair trade http://www.globalexchange.org/campaigns/fairtrade/coffee/background.html In my opinion if you can afford it, fair trade is worth it as a social responsibility. But I am still confused about Overstocks pricing. From the link you sent, I can buy 1 lb. of coffee for $ 6.75. If I am looking at Overstocks pricing correct, the non-reduced price works out to $ 27.00 a pound. That seems a little steep to me, and I am wondering if I am reading the quanity incorrectly. Thanks for the reply and the link, I appreciate the help. Mike
mywarmbluefleece
Oh my gosh! I wasn't even looking at the price. It must be really fair for the farmers if it is that price!!! It doesn't sound right unless its some sort of coffee prized by billionaires and movie stars. I would email Overstock and ask if the quantity is right.
