Stowasser Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 I am giving my son an older computer, he generally surfs the net and than plays PC games, would this help the computer be faster and easier to play the PC games? If so, does this have Wins Xp or similar already on it or how does that work? Or should I just upgrade the RAM's
smebbster Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Can I buy a HDD enclosure and use this as an external hdd?
Ripn Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Cool! I just got my confirmation email saying I will receive it on 11-28 :) Thanks! Not too bad, $23 shipped AR for 200GB... didn't even have to leave my desk for it, rebate is already processed too!

If so, does this have Wins Xp or similar already on it or how does that work? Or should I just upgrade the RAM'sif he has a small hard drive, this would give him more space, but you will not notice a speed increase. staples has ram on sale. that would be your best bet.
Swampbaby Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 WOW Final cost, including tax is $12.04. I used a reward check that was about to expire. Wouldn't let me use an expired one, however, I do know my local store will honor it when I make a purchase there. Thanks for the heads up on this one. Been wanting an additional drive.

Is there any formatting/partitioning to do? I want to get the enclosure and assemble the external hdd and have it ready to store data, is that possible? I mean does it instantly become plug and play?

I want to get the enclosure and assemble the external hdd and have it ready to store data, is that possible? I mean does it instantly become plug and play?i bought the enclosure last year from compusa when it was on sale for black friday. it was 20 bucks. so last year i got a 200 gig external for about 40 bucks. i saw a real external 250 gig this year for 40 bucks after rebate. all you have to do is attach the cable with the enclosure unit and snap it together or screw it depending on the type. http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?pfp=cat3&product_code=312100&Pn=USB_2_0_3_5_inch_External_Hard_Drive_Enclosure above is what i got last year. you can get different types if you want. i would check the compusa site and look for it on sale.
dreamerose Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Thank you! I was bummed because the nearest Staples is 20 miles away, and I knew they only had four, and there was no way I could be there by 6 a.m. You made my day!
