The price shows up correct when customizing the laptop, but when i add to cart, the price is without the discount. I talked with support and they said there was technical difficulties, but he may have not known what he was talking about. anyone else have this?

i chatted online about this. they said there's technicaly issues. I told her exactly what I wanted. She said to build it just as you want it, and then put it in the last screen possible (verify and submit) so she could see it. she looked, and then emailed me a QUOTE with the corrected pricing and the exact build i was looking for. Look at the email, click the link, and you're good. ;) I found out i even got a further discount since my work is a corporate partner or somthing. So YAY i got it. With the $50 upgraded processor of course. Man this laptop rocks. Nice video card!!!

Yes, their online ordering is messed up. Do this and you will have it ordered at the lower price within ten minutes. First, build your laptop using the link given. Register and Save the item to your cart. Call 1-800-999-3355, go to sales, tell them about the problem and they'll bring up your cart. If they ask you for a discount code it's 08878-DNPSHX1. . Thats it. There online chat took over 50 minutes wait

What was your final cost with the extra discount. My husband also get a corporate discount but on that site for dell the price comes up alot more than the $585. I should probably just call.

Unfortunately, I think the corporate discount Dell site and the regular Dell site are different. A discount at Dell home doesn't necessarily mean a discount at Dell corporate discount site if what I'm thinking is correct. Also, I had to call Dell to get the laptop for the sale price. It showed up in the cart at $794 and I couldn't find a place to input a coupon code. On other notes, I just ordered one of these babies for $635 (I upgraded the CPU to the dual core Turion X2 for $50). I did it over the phone and the Dell person gave the discount after I gave her the coupon code. I can't wait for it to get here!

Woa, if you SAVE the cart which requires you to register and/or log on, THEN you get the discount online. I think it has to do with "Dell Home Customers: Save $159 off Dell Inspiron E1501"

I saw the same thing in my invoice, but it's $30! I called Dell and it cannot be removed from the purchase.

I just saw it myself. I've had a hell of a time getting them to get my order processed correctly. Why should we be charged for yahoo? I dont recall seeing a charge for that on the preloaded software screen. Anyone have any suggestions or are we screwed with the price. And I am correct in saying the processor is not a core duo unless you get it upgraded? They also updated the ship date from 12/4 to 12/15. Bogus.

My ship date went from 12/30 to 11/04. You have to buy the Yahoo Jukebox as part of the package. The processor is not a Core Duo. You can get a Turion X2 though, which is dual core. These are AMD laptops, not Intel. You cannot put Intel processors in these laptops. AMD and Intel processors are not cross changeable, except for the very old ones.

I just spoke with Dell and they told me it is part of the package. Thanks for clearing up the issue on the processor. I believe this laptop will last me a four or five years. I was just a little irritated that my original order ship date was 12/4. I place a new order the same day and they tell me it wont ship until 12/15. I sure hope this estimated time is skewed.

No problem :).

Earlier this month, some people were complaining that the Inspiron 1501 took two weeks to a month to ship. That was when the model first came out though, which is normal. Hopefully things have changed since then.

Dell will also overestimate the time it will take for orders to arrive so that it will come earlier than you expected. This makes you, the customer, feel Dell has over delivered and done a fantastic job when they really just built and shipped an order in a normal amount of time. It's a smart business idea if you ask me. Many other places (including Amazon.com) do this.

By the way, does your order say, "In Production", on the order status page? You can find out by visiting this page.

I was able to order this laptop through the company I work for buy using this link to get a better price and same specs. I got the processor upgrade. Plus my company discount. But, be wary of the tax, and this so called handling charges. The main thing is I was able to get the same laptop with the specs. Darryl

How were you able to get this deal and also a deal through your company on this laptop? I have an educators discount, but cannot apply it to this because it's through home and office.

same thing here. I actually called and asked Dell if I'd be able to get an extra discount through my husbands employer and he couldn't answer. I've gone through the epp site and the price actually comes up more than the home and office.

Does anyone know how tax works on these? What if I have it shipped to a state that does not have sales tax? Is it true that you can save $49 by buying through the online agents?

Hey, that's awesome! My dh is retired military. We all have military ids and can shop at a px, etc. Would we be eligible to go thru aafes, too? How do you get to Dell from there? Sorry for the questions, but aafes.com (or my home computer with wonky dial-up) isn't cooperating enough to let me find all the info. THanks

This is a nice deal, but I wonder what the cost would be for the same specs from the original link. I noticed these specs, does not have 1 GB SDRAM, True Life Screen, or the Duo Processor, 80GB hard drive.

Well it becomes more but with premier.dell through your company you can have the options of changing/customize more then just going through dell.com, out of the 1 GB SDRAM, True Life Screen, Duo Processor, 80GB hard drive. you really don't need those extra maybe the processor but for :) $470.00 no tax free shipping through aafes.com is good for me, aafes are afforing 20% off also but not on computers:( so try to find someone in the military and go through aafes.com for some great deals.
