Clock radio w/ CD player

Recommended Posts

Looking for a bedside clock radio w/cd player as a gift for my sister-in-law. I don't think she needs anything fancy, just the capability to wake up to a CD.

I'd like to keep it under $40 which is easy enough but the trick is that I'm trying to avoid the real no-name brands. I'm not looking for something specific, I just don't want anything made by Coby, GPX, Classic, etc. (sounds snobby, I know, but since this is a gift I want to make sure it will work well plus the cheap stuff is usually pretty ugly as well).

I have found a few options but any help would be appreciated. :)

Here are some options I found with a quick search:

If you are willing to get a refurbished model, check Overstock.com and request a deal from Chris in the other thread as OS has quite a few name-brand models around your price range.

Alot of the models can be found at your local Target/Walmart/BB/CC so you could take a look at them in person before ordering (assuming you can get them cheaper online).

I used to have a CD clock radio from RCA that worked well, but now I have a radio-only model, but it's a nice one that I got a very hot deal on.

BTW, Brad, how'd you get a deal on that Recepter radio? I'm a big fan of Boston Acoustics, all my main HT speakers are from them.

It was a one-time fluke, lol. It was an open-box model at BestBuy. They were just putting it out. Apparently somebody bought it, realized what it cost for being "just a radio" and returned it without the FM antenna. So I was able to get it for under $50 IIRC. I already had an extra antenna, so it worked perfectly. The radio itself was basically brand new.

I have a Timex triple alarm one that also wakes to the alarm and nature sounds (ok the nature sounds are kind of freakish--especially the waves/seagulls) but it's cute and wakes my husband up (nothing else ever has)--when we were stationed in Germany pre marriage, I had to go to his room in the barracks and bang on his door until he woke up--finally he gave me a key to his room and I'd go over and roll him out of bed--sometimes EVEN THAT didn't work. They have a newer version with even more bells and whistles that's really cute looking :-)

I have an old Sony radio alarm clock which has served me well through the years.

I don't even use the radio portion as that would never wake us up.

I have to agree! I have tried to use the radio part and I have found all I do is listen to it while I'm still half alseep. I need the really loud obnoxious type and even those really don't do it for me. My DH can tell you that it usually takes HIM having to wake me up. I'm sooo not a morning person. ;)

I just got a True Value ad and they have a Memorex one on sale for 39.99 with a 10.00 rebate. It says a CD Clock Radio with dual alarm settings. Top-loading CD player with programmable memory. Snooze button 9V battery back up option. I really don't know if they have a web site (sure they probably do) but it has a number after it M 526 865 2 Hope that this helps.:idea::idea:
