This looks like a decent deal. What I like about it is that it is in my price range and I wouldn't have to buy a another stick of memory to get 1 gig. What I would like to ask if anyone knows how long deals like this last, I have never bought from Dell.

Anyone have an idea how long this deal might last? I want to avoid BF, have at least 1 gig of memory but kinda want to see if there are any good online deals on BF..

thanks for any input!

There is no definite end for this deal, but usually Dell changes their promotions on Wednesday, so you'd be taking a chance waiting until BF.

However last year Dell had some pretty nice deals during BF and shortly after, so something equivalent could come up as well.

I wouldn't chance it as this deal could end anyday and may not last until BF. If you do wait, you'll most likely regret it. You could order it now and cancel the order before it ships. If you wait until BF, BB has a great deal on an HP laptop for $379 but you'll have to wait in line for 6+ hours to get it. I think the 1GB RAM, DVD Burner, WiFi, free printer and free shipping make this a deal hard to resist.

are there any coupon codes that I can use with this, or is this as low as it will go?

Nope.

It seems that the only real difference is the 1gb ram. Isn't the processor slower than the one at BB? And the OS is older, the one at BB will be the Windows XP Media Center Edition and the one that comes with this one is the older regular Windows XP. It looks like you may be paying for a little more ( about $130 to be exact) for convenience, for more ram, less hard drive, and an older OS. Am I missing some thing???

***BTW*** HP is also giving away a free printer when you buy the BB laptop also (after rebate).

The HP laptop @ BB is better but that's assuming you have a BB nearby and are willing to stand in line for hours. If that's the case then great, go for it.

Windows XP Home and MCE are both built on the same OS, MCE offers some additional media applications.

Windows Vista is the newer OS.

Not everyone has a Best Buy near them or are willing to stand in line for xx hours for the HP laptop.

this is actually a great deal espesially if you are not playing video games on it and just surfing the net and doing other stuff

Exactly. This laptop is perfect to surf the net, word processing, watching DVD movies, burning CD's and DVD's, and it has wireless internet built in.

is this a duo core?

No, this is a Celeron which is slower.

If you want MS Office to go with this, find your favorite military friend and ask them to look at the Base Exchange. Often, they will have special prices on Office and sell the product at the military base at a lower price -- about $50. Just give them the money and ask them to get one for you.

Well, I ordered it. $523 shipped. I guess that gets me out of standing in line at BB Friday morning in hopes that I am lucky enough to get one. Thanks for finding the offer!

you may have it before BF as well and wont have to worry about going out unless your still planning x-mas shopping else where

I just ordered one of these. Great deal and worth it to me NOT to stand in line in the cold for hours to maybe get one at BB. Same laptop I was using at work and it was great. Did everything I needed it to do AND this one burns DVDs my work laptop did not. I'm very happy with this purchase. Don't need the printer but hey, I'll take it! Can't wait to get it!

I just ordered one. I really struggled with the decision for a while but after comparing standing outside for 12 hours or so to get a laptop from BB (HP) this is a much better deal. I'm sure it would have been interesting standing outside with everyone dying to get a deal. Maybe next year :)

This is a great deal for a notebook. I just told a friend whose in the market for one to order it. The Celeron 380 is based on the P-M, just a slower FSB and smaller cache.

For 99% of most people, this cpu has more than enough processing power. It'll encode video (divx/xvid/mpeg2,etc) on par with a desktop P4 running at ~2.8-3GHz.

I've got two notebooks - a compaq nx7010 (P-M 1.7GHz) and just picked up it's replacement - an HP nx7400 (Core2Duo 1.83GHz). 95% of the time I use the notebooks, I have the speedstep software (which allows you to control the cpu frequency) running at the slowest it'll drop to.

For the "M" that's 600MHz and the Core2Duo it's ~900MHz. I run in this mode for just about everything I do (email, web browsing, mp3 playback, dvd playback, office, etc) and you'd not know it wasn't running at full speed. The advantage is two fold - one the notebook stays cooler, so you can actually use it on your "lap" and two -- when not plugged into an AC power source, the battery life is a heck of a lot longer.

The only time I set the frequency to full speed is if I'm doing video encoding or compressing files, etc.

If you need a notebook -- don't bother waiting in some line for 15 hours to save $100 or $150 bucks vs this deal. At $499, I don't know how dell is making any money on it haha. Especially since it comes with a dvd burner, 1GB memory and a printer.

Smart move and if it's isn't too late I would consider cancelling your Dell Inspiron B130 order and get this instead.

It is $86 more but it's worth every last penny, here's what you get:

  • Faster AMD Turion 64 CPU vs slower old generation Intel Celeron
  • 6 cell battery vs 4 cell which only lasts about 1.5 hours
  • FREE UPGRADE TO WINDOWS VISTA PREMIUM ($10 shipping) vs NO UPGRADE
