DDKnight Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 This looks like a decent deal. What I like about it is that it is in my price range and I wouldn't have to buy a another stick of memory to get 1 gig. What I would like to ask if anyone knows how long deals like this last, I have never bought from Dell. Anyone have an idea how long this deal might last? I want to avoid BF, have at least 1 gig of memory but kinda want to see if there are any good online deals on BF.. thanks for any input! DDK
Brad Posted November 19, 2006 Author Posted November 19, 2006 There is no definite end for this deal, but usually Dell changes their promotions on Wednesday, so you'd be taking a chance waiting until BF. However last year Dell had some pretty nice deals during BF and shortly after, so something equivalent could come up as well.
Guest cmars1010 Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 are there any coupon codes that I can use with this, or is this as low as it will go?

DDKI wouldn't chance it as this deal could end anyday and may not last until BF. If you do wait, you'll most likely regret it. You could order it now and cancel the order before it ships. If you wait until BF, BB has a great deal on an HP laptop for $379 but you'll have to wait in line for 6+ hours to get it. I think the 1GB RAM, DVD Burner, WiFi, free printer and free shipping make this a deal hard to resist. are there any coupon codes that I can use with this, or is this as low as it will go?Nope.
DDKnight Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 Thanks for the input!! I think I'll order it... DDK

Isn't the processor slower than the one at BB? And the OS is older, the one at BB will be the Windows XP Media Center Edition and the one that comes with this one is the older regular Windows XP. It looks like you may be paying for a little more ( about $130 to be exact) for convenience, for more ram, less hard drive, and an older OS. Am I missing some thing??? ***BTW*** HP is also giving away a free printer when you buy the BB laptop also (after rebate).

If that's the case then great, go for it. Windows XP Home and MCE are both built on the same OS, MCE offers some additional media applications. Windows Vista is the newer OS. Not everyone has a Best Buy near them or are willing to stand in line for xx hours for the HP laptop. this is actually a great deal espesially if you are not playing video games on it and just surfing the net and doing other stuffExactly. This laptop is perfect to surf the net, word processing, watching DVD movies, burning CD's and DVD's, and it has wireless internet built in. is this a duo core? No, this is a Celeron which is slower.

I have two BBs by me and I calculated my wait time to be about 5-6 hours.Guess I be a standin' (or sittin') then!! I have BB bucks to spend!!!
cdavis Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 How does this laptop stack up against the one that was $398 at WalMart. I have it on layway and I'm consdering cancelling it and getting this one. Any input would be great. Thanks!
nurseypoo5 Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 i mean its still a good pc. your giving up some. I got a dell last month 2 dou core processor 1 g mem 160 gig harddrive and bells and whistles and there extremly expensive but dumb if you dont warranty. i can hammer it and get a new one for 4 yrs. i paid 1600.00 still, this would be great for your kids going to college. something to ponder~
guardado4 Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 this looks like a great deal. My desktop died a few months ago and hubby and I have been sharing the laptop. We have been talking about getting a 2nd laptop...at this price it is tempting.
Trishy Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Well, I ordered it. $523 shipped. I guess that gets me out of standing in line at BB Friday morning in hopes that I am lucky enough to get one. Thanks for finding the offer!
belmarsurfer Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Just be reminded that it doesn't include a productivity suite...Just works....so unless you have it, prepare to shell out extra for Microsoft Office.
RedSpider Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 Anyone know the "regular" price Dell has for laptop?
razormoney Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 If you want MS Office to go with this, find your favorite military friend and ask them to look at the Base Exchange. Often, they will have special prices on Office and sell the product at the military base at a lower price -- about $50. Just give them the money and ask them to get one for you.
Trishy Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 I can get it loaded here at work for free. Thats what I did the last time.
mjpohl Posted November 20, 2006 Posted November 20, 2006 This is an unbelievable deal. The fact that it comes with 1GB Memory will help speed the computer up definetely. I bought this today and I am thrilled! For a laptop this is the best price you can find.

LoriO1123 Posted November 21, 2006 Posted November 21, 2006 Thanks so much for the great deal info!! It is my son's 18th birthday Thursday. I ordered this for him so he will have it when he leaves for college next fall.:)

lttlecrybby Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 I just ordered one of these. Great deal and worth it to me NOT to stand in line in the cold for hours to maybe get one at BB. Same laptop I was using at work and it was great. Did everything I needed it to do AND this one burns DVDs my work laptop did not. I'm very happy with this purchase. Don't need the printer but hey, I'll take it! Can't wait to get it!
chefbart Posted November 22, 2006 Posted November 22, 2006 sounds like a great deal, but i play lots of games so i dont think its right for me
musicjunkie Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 I just ordered one. I really struggled with the decision for a while but after comparing standing outside for 12 hours or so to get a laptop from BB (HP) this is a much better deal. I'm sure it would have been interesting standing outside with everyone dying to get a deal. Maybe next year :)
frak Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 This is a great deal for a notebook. I just told a friend whose in the market for one to order it. The Celeron 380 is based on the P-M, just a slower FSB and smaller cache. For 99% of most people, this cpu has more than enough processing power. It'll encode video (divx/xvid/mpeg2,etc) on par with a desktop P4 running at ~2.8-3GHz. I've got two notebooks - a compaq nx7010 (P-M 1.7GHz) and just picked up it's replacement - an HP nx7400 (Core2Duo 1.83GHz). 95% of the time I use the notebooks, I have the speedstep software (which allows you to control the cpu frequency) running at the slowest it'll drop to. For the "M" that's 600MHz and the Core2Duo it's ~900MHz. I run in this mode for just about everything I do (email, web browsing, mp3 playback, dvd playback, office, etc) and you'd not know it wasn't running at full speed. The advantage is two fold - one the notebook stays cooler, so you can actually use it on your "lap" and two -- when not plugged into an AC power source, the battery life is a heck of a lot longer. The only time I set the frequency to full speed is if I'm doing video encoding or compressing files, etc. If you need a notebook -- don't bother waiting in some line for 15 hours to save $100 or $150 bucks vs this deal. At $499, I don't know how dell is making any money on it haha. Especially since it comes with a dvd burner, 1GB memory and a printer. -frak

It is $86 more but it's worth every last penny, here's what you get:Faster AMD Turion 64 CPU vs slower old generation Intel Celeron6 cell battery vs 4 cell which only lasts about 1.5 hoursFREE UPGRADE TO WINDOWS VISTA PREMIUM ($10 shipping) vs NO UPGRADEIf you need a notebook -- don't bother waiting in some line for 15 hours to save $100 or $150 bucks vs this deal. musicjunkie Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Thanks for the scoop Brad. If I were Donald Trump I would have stretched the wallet. However this time the wallet was in shreds. Hopefully it lasts for a while. Im already thinking about after Christmas upgrading the RAM to 2g
musicjunkie Posted November 23, 2006 Posted November 23, 2006 Damn you people! I just cancelled my order and got one of the Inspirons. I know its a better deal for a bit more and the battery life will be great.
