elena_398
Both my children this year are involved with their school's christmas program this year. Both have speaking parts. My daughter is so excited and practices almost daily. (yes Im sick of some of the christmas songs already, but I'll try to get back into them by her program. lol). My son however, isn't all too thrilled. He has the main speaking part as he's great with memorization. No one else could master all the lines (hes the main narrator I guess its called. No cards allowed. Has to memorize everything). The programs are the first and second weeks in December. Anyone else going to any christmas programs this year? Or maybe even your kids aren't in it? I just love watching the kids perform. They aren't always solid in their performances and its so cute to see any mishaps. (the cute ones- not the embarrassing ones for the kids lol). I know my kids have experienced both.
ccarson1972
This isn't an acting program, but my son was forced to join choir when he started junior high this year so I will be going to 4 performances throughout the year one being Christmas of course. Melissa
'Christmas' is a dirty word in public schools, haven't you heard?
JenT1292
'Christmas' is a dirty word in public schools, haven't you heard? Sadly, the same is true here. When my son was in kindergarten, they got to have a "holiday" program, but that was the last one. Now they only have spring music programs, no holiday themes at all allowed in our schools. bayhaysay
We got a new music teacher at our school 2 years ago and she "doesn't want to mess with it". We had a Christmas program every year up until then. My kids are in the Christmas program at church every year and they love it.

carone0318
My dd just graduated from doing the Christmas play at her school since it is performed by the K-4, she will be doing the Spring play (5-8), but this year ds is in K so we have 5 more years of going to the Christmas play. Christmas may be a taboo word in public school, but we catholic schools thrive on the word and meaning (the play is very religous) and my kids school puts on a fabulous play, it is truly hard to believe that it is put on by K-4. I can't wait to see the K's perform. They normally get a couple of songs that they do in a row and it is so cute to watch. The play is so good that it begins at 7:30, but they open the doors at 6:30 and most people come line up around 6pm to get a good seat (we're in NJ, so it can be cold waiting to get in there). They have a dress rehersal that is open to adults to come see, they perform for 2 nights and the also do a matinee show after the 2 nights. elena_398
Since both of my kids are in the same district the schools understand siblings could be doing other things so they schedule programs on different nights. Thankfully they did this as both of them are on Tuesdays and my husband will be at work (he works midnights). So I video tape them for him
