Well, when dealing with a hard drive that will contain data I do not want to lose, OEM is not worth the chance. Retail is better, it isn't just a pretty box. The only thing that differs from the retail, is the pretty box, the cable, and the screws. Then again I could be wrong, but I never heard of this before. I always go with OEM if I can save money. The other ones are just too expensive $220. Hard drives are fragile, and sometimes you get a few that fail. I would rather have a drive that hasn't ever been handled before, and went straight from assembly line (or however they are made), directly to box. They are not system pulls or anything like that. They are the same ones the manufacturers send to system builders, just that they send some to retailers like Newegg to sell. I bought a few OEM items before and they worked just like the retail items I purchased in the past. And hey, they're all covered with warrany just like retail. I always thought that OEM drives also fall under the category of ones that would come from a prebuilt system, that might not have been used, but still selll as new. Some were put in retail boxes with cables, screws, mounting brackets, etc... and others were packaged in bulk and sent to system builders and retailers like Newegg. They are brand new. If these OEM drives end up being fine to use, then I will just use them. If I need to go buy a RAID cable anyways, I might as well just get the OEM ones anyways.
