I just called the BB here in Tulsa to confirm store hours on bf and asked him about what time people linedup last year. He told me that BB has changed ads before when they have been leaked like this and he thinks that they may do it with the bf ad...:gdangry4:

Has anyone else heard of this I haven't gone to BB on bf before and didn't really bother with their ad???? Please tell me that this is not true...that he was just messing me!!!!

I believe that's like their (and probably other stores') typical answer to people who ask about the BF ads preemptively, the point being that they don't want to drive away sales during the week or so before BF (more so than is already going to happen) by "confirming" that certain items will be so much more discounted that Friday. Any ad scan that is actually from the store is going to be so on the money it's not even funny. Even if there is a mistake, they might not go back and edit it, and just put up a sign at the store saying there's a mistake. That's why the people who do the ads for Best Buy, and Best Buy itself, are extremely careful with what they put together. Most of the stores with big BF sales (including Best Buy) are giant corporate stores and in some cases they outsource the ad creation and printing. They have to start printing them up well in advance to be able to get the ads shipped to newspapers across the country. And obviously, the stores themselves get advance copies, which are printed up well in advance. You can imagine what a headache it would be to go back and change anything at this point.

And of course, as shockwave noted below, the logistics people at the company have to plan ahead for securing and delivering ample stock of BF items, and this process could start several months before BF. For them to change anything last-minute would just be impossible to follow through on, if they want to provide any sense of customer satisfaction/loyalty.

As a 10 year walmart asscociate, let me tell you this, Walmart will not change their ad. I work for the distribution center and you ought to see the 1000's of black friday items that we are getting this moment as I write this. Every wal-mart in the U.S is practically getting the same items. The only difference is the prices some areas are higher or lower than others. If there is a change it is only to add items, the original items will remain.

There may also be regional differences (with Best Buy, there's the obvious doorbuster issue for BF, and also some various things that show up throughout the year. For example, listed cable/satellite companies will vary by region and for over a year, the Reward Zone promos and fine-print details were printed differently for ads in Dayton, Columbus, and Cincinnati). But once again, in most cases these are all taken care of by the same people who do the rest of the ads. These are all pretty much set in stone in advance as well, but it's just more likely that any smaller geographic area that will have some differences will not get noticed or be leaked ahead of time. So it is always possible that the ad you get will be different, but it'll be because they knew in advance that your area would have separate promotions, not because they changed it at the last minute. Most corporate-owned stores shy away from this, however, because it's just too difficult to manage a bunch of different promotions throughout the whole country.

Yeah.....but you are not a home office official. Most of the associates are still unaware what is "going down" for BF. I believe that bigger and better prices are coming. And the bottom line is that what home office wants....home office gets.:yup:

In Illinois we got a different ad than what was posted for bb

We (Chicago) got the same ad that was posted.

Yes, I live in the Quad Cities too!!!! I waited in line for 6 hours and when I asked for the laptop in the BF ad they didn't know anything about it. Damn, that pissed me off.

Both the laptop and desktop was on sale here (Chicago). Before you start to camp, buy the newspaper on Thanksgiving to confirm the sales.

I was at bestbuy yesterday and i asked the some of them about the westinghouse and they

were like, so i assume you know about the BF deal.....

So I don't know if it's something they already know or just also got from these sites.

I would assume that people have already came in and asked and I know talking from a friend of mine who is a regional manager for BB and he says that the corporate intelligence people for Best Buy have been monitoring this site and other sites and emails have been sent from the top down to the stores telling them to protect there BF stock and not to price match.

Think about it for a minute.....we're a week before BF. Don't you think that most, if not all, the Best Buy staff at any Best Buy knows what's going to be on sale and for what price by now? Don't you think that if they don't know, that they're at least a little bit curious about all the stock that's arrived and NOT been put on the floor for sale yet? With hundreds of stores and hundreds of items, the stock for the BF sale has been arriving for weeks......and has been segregated from their normal replenishment stock for the store shelves. That fact alone must be giving the store staff a little bit of a hint as to what's on sale for BF.
