outnumbered Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Here is a better pic, w/stats, of the mp3 player Radio Shack was selling today:http://datavisioncomputer.com/webapp/commerce/command/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1244659&prmenbr=2000 Please tell me this is a great starter mp3 player, since I bought it. It plays the .wma and mp3 files, has no software needed, etc., so it looked right to me--I just want reassurance.
RossMAN Posted November 27, 2004 Author Posted November 27, 2004 I'm glad that you called last night and we discussed this. LOL I remember saying make sure it plays MP3/WMA and requires no drivers or software. Fortunately you got a good one (especially for $29.99 price). It would be better if it had a built in FM Tuner but it's a great budget MP3 player. The recipient should be happy and you didn't have to sell a kidney to pay for it.
outnumbered Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Whew! I was very happy to get the advice. I felt much more confident going in there, knowing I was asking the right questions and the player would at least work with the right files. I'm *almost* wishing I got one for myself, too, but I think I'll hold out until I can afford a better model that will last me many years. I don't think my computer is good enough for downloading songs anyway--I will have to wait till we can upgrade to join the whole digital music phenomenon. Thanks very much for the advice! :)
biomajor Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Actually it's not really the computer that you need to worry about in putting the songs to the MP3 player. Our ancient AMD K6-300 used to download music no problem up until last year when my husband turned that computer into the firewall. It's actually your internet connection and your amount of patience LOL I've ripped every CD we own (except the ones that I just found under my daughter's bed yesterday) onto the computer and that's what's on my son's player. I did burn them to CD before he changed the computer, then uploaded them to my computer so my son could download them to his MP3 player :-)
outnumbered Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 Our connection isn't great either. Dialup, and anytime I've ever tried to download a movie clip, it would have to stop mid-playing to continue downloading...it's a mess. I'm doubtful I could get a song to download properly if a movie clip doesn't work. Whatever it is that causes the problem...it's just slow. Oh well. We won't be broke forever.
biomajor Posted November 27, 2004 Posted November 27, 2004 I can honestly say that I know exactly how you feel :-) 5 years ago my husband got out of the army and we both went to Cameron University in OK. Those were 3 LEAN years--Heck CHEAP Hot Dogs and cheap boxes of Mac N Cheese were a 2-3 times a week meal--but he graduated early--I never have--and he got a great job and we moved here to TN. It's much better here, although I really should have stayed there for that last year and finished--but then we'd have been apart some more and I'd had enough of that for the 11 years he was in the army. I decided then that money doesn't matter as long as we're together :-) (Kind of corny, but true)

And yeah, cost of living in the TN area is nice and cheap. I'm looking forward to moving home and dreading it all at the same time.
