this is going to be my first semi-pro camera. it will be very usefull for college the next 3 years. i dont have any experience on adjustable lens' but i think i can pick it up well. the one that comes in the kit looks like a good beginer one, but ive heard a few other people suggest a static/single zoom lens. whats your opinion on the matter?

I'm no pro either, sorry if I gave that impression :D I also come from p&s and it just doesn't do it for me anymore. I'm sure you feel the same way.
I asked for advice left and right and I was told that if I can't aford a good lens (like this one) it might be wiser (and cheaper) to stick with the kit one. My other (fairly amateurish) ideea was to get the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II and I was told that the kit lens allows me to play and learn more. Apparently, even if it's not a top of the line lens it's considered decent.

@JCz7383 - I know your advice was for sniperomega, but still, to explain myself: I fell inlove with the XTi. I got to have it, and there's no other one for me. :cheesy:

I went to Best Buy, CC and Cord Camera asking for opinions on a 6mp digital camera, from the Casio, Sony, and Canon and all recommend the Canon SD600. So that's what I'm trying to get! They said the Canon has better picture quality but they all are good cameras. HTH! :D

Stay away from the Kodak, the Canon is the failsafe choice.

Hello everyone!!! I am looking at the Nikon 6.2 megapixel digital camera with 5X zoom at Circit City... is this a good camera or is there a better one in that price range or less ($169)? Thanks! :-)

i think nikon is a great brand.. but i think i will stick with canon. though they may have lower battery life. its b/c of smaller everything (including battery). if im gonna be carrying it around, id rather it be smaller and lighter (canon). i think i really like the xti also. though i think i may end up getting a fixed zoom lens. (50 or 70) also, to people asking for advice on deals. link to the deal, and/or the camera on sale somewhere else (so we can take a look at the stats)

Oh yeah? How did you do that? The website says "This item is only available for purchase in stores" .

It is NOT avaliable for online ordering. So, once again, how did you order this?

I will be buying the Canon SD600. BTW, the price of the SD600 is only for the in store price. It is the only one that isn't avaliable online! Bummer!

I have found it for $219.00 at Costco online (the board won't let me post the link because I don't have enough points! BS)

As for the other manufacturers, they are a step below Canon, according to all that I have read. Canons optics are superior.

If anyone knows of a cheaper one, please let me know.

Thanks.

I did pick up the Kodak C633 at Target for 98.00. I am curious why no one like Kodak? I have heard some people say they like Kodak. And i did research and for the most part it does seem Canon does get better reviews. This is my first digital camera. I am a little behind the times. And wanted one for just taking pics of my kids, family functions, etc. So is this not a good camera to start out with? I did not want to spend more than 130.00. I had considered the Canon that Kmart had, but the Kodak seemed to have had more pros than the cannon. I just want to make sure I got something pretty desent. Thanks in advance for any tips or advice.:)
