copados1993 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Anyone have any good ideas for Christmas centerpieces for my dining room table? Last year I used candles and greens. I'd like something semi formal. My colors are deep red and gold. Something pretty (and easy) please.
hopeky94 Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 How about a clear glass bowl (with or without a pedestal) filled with gold ball ornaments, with some sprigs of greenery and dark red poinsettias sticking out from between them (and maybe more greenery/pointsettias around the bottom, if it's on a pedestal)? Or use gold and dark red ornament balls? A similar idea would be a bowl of shiny beads in the same colors. Another idea that seems pretty popular is candles on top of mirrors. But right now, I'm drawing a blank on how to arrange that one, so hopefully someone else can give more ideas on this... I know I've seen other beautiful holiday centerpieces, but these were the first two that came to mind... hope this helps! :)
Stowasser Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 We have a long rectangle table and down the center I lay christmas greens out then I tuck a string of christmas lights in the green or you can lay the lights out first and set the greens over them, I than make a centerpiece, either a centerpiece with greens and ribbons with candle in the middle or last year I had a large burg vase and put foam in it (just tight at the top) and got beautiful deep red roses at Costco and put them in the foam with greenery and gold ribbons, you could even get gold balls different sizes and either glue them in or glue a pick on them and insert them, than I place all kinds of candles tucked in the greenery on the table, different sizes are very fun as long as they somewhat match in color. I did see over at Lakeside they had some small votives in the red/gold tone and matching larger candle holders which would give the table depth. At night with the lights dimmed and the christmas lights on, it sparkles. Oh, and I sprinkle either glitter or snowflakes (artificial ones) all over the greenery....
Illinoismom Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 Me I just use a Holiday Tart burner as my centerpiece
JazzMama Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Here are some sites I have bookmarked for ideas for my own home. I like that with all of these ideas you just work with what you already have: Evergreen Centerpiecehttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45/secrease731/Evergreencenterpiece.jpghttp://interiordec.about.com/cs/holidaydecorating/l/blcmaspr001.htm Christmas centerpiece of ornaments in a pedestal bowlhttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45/secrease731/Ornamentsinpedestalbowl.jpghttp://interiordec.about.com/od/cmasctpcproj/a/a_cmasornbowl.htm Winter Wonderland centerpieceYou could always replace silver with gold/red or even change it to a holly/ivy instead of snowflakeshttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45/secrease731/Snowflakecenterpiece.jpgFor a table that captures the breathtaking sparkle of a first snow, choose silver textiles trimmed with shimmering snowflakes and sconces draped in light-catching beads. Accent the place settings with ornaments, crystal, shimmering bead garlands or organza ribbon - whatever inspires you. Tassled runners do wonders for adding upscale elegance to otherwise unremarkable settings; try them draped over chairs as well for a very dressed up effect. Christmas figurine centerpiecehttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45/secrease731/Figurinecenterpiece.jpg Winter centerpiecehttp://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y45/secrease731/Wintercenterpiece.jpgOutside it may be frightful but inside your reception room, the snow is oh so delightful! Trimmed with hints of wintry weather, these pretty and pristine pieces embellish every setting with charm. Like holiday garlands, silver strands wrap themselves around these snow-white spiral candles and accentuate their beauty. Grouping the candles in collections of different sizes and shapes, as opposed to using all the same, will add visual interest. Placing the group on a mirror platform helps increase the perceived size of the centerpiece as its reflection is captured. The caviar pearl bead garland lends the soft, frothy, 'snowy' effect that absolutely caps off this look to total perfection. Just another example of how a very simple-to-assemble design can be absolutely stunning when the right pieces and combinations are used.
Cecilliadb Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 I wish I could do stuff like that.....if I even tryed I give my toddler 5 mins and everything would be broken lol. Beautiful ideas though.
hopeky94 Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Oooo-- slightly off topic, but... does anyone know where I could get some of that "caviar pearl bead garland" (or something similar) that's around the candles on the mirror (see last picture in JazzMama's post above)? I'd love to use something like that at my mom's, on top of a white sheet, with her SnowBuddies collection and/or her Christmas village... maybe hide some white lights in there somehow... I think it would be so much prettier than the white batting stuff we usually use!
lisabeth Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 At the "video" section of the Better Homes & Gardens website (bhg.com) there are some wonderful ideas and easy directions for holiday centerpieces for Christmas and other times of the year.
tokanm Posted October 14, 2006 Posted October 14, 2006 I went to a Holiday time wedding and the centerpieces were a bowl with green and red gravel and a red beta fish swimming in it. It sounds tacky but it was actually very pretty and interesting. There was even a small evergreen plastic tree in the bowl as decoration. It seemed like everyone wanted to take home those centerpieces as they were so unique.
Gporter34 Posted October 15, 2006 Posted October 15, 2006 In the BF 2005 archives there is a great thread on holiday centerpieces, I am just too lazy to look for it.LOL I use different ones every year and I think I am going to use a live Evergreen centerpiece this year for the smell since I use artificial trees.
