Nintendo has revealed to the New York Times and Seattle Post-Intelligencer that its Wii console will make its much anticipated debut on November 19 for the retail price of $250. The price may be $50 more than some were expecting, but Nintendo is including Wii Sports as a pack-in title.

Update: Here's the NYT article: http://www.nytimes.com/2006/09/14/technology/14game.html

:yelclap: Just in time for Black Friday.

Exactly... :) I wouldn't wait until then... I'm stopping by EB games during my lunch break, hopefully now that there's an official release date they will start taking pre-orders.

And also, since nintendo is adding in wii sports as a pack in game, hopefully retailers won't force other bundles upon the customers...

This is probably the only thing DS wants for Christmas so I am sure DH already has a plan for getting it the day it is released. The only hard thing then will be keeping him from giving it too DS early. :yup:

Also in the announcement, 25-30 games will be available for the Wii by year end.

...and

about 30 classic games will be available for download when the Wii is released, including ones from the Zelda, Mario and Donkey Kong franchises. Downloadable games will cost about $5 to $10 each.

I'm signed up for EB Games to email me when Wii is available for preorder and I haven't received an email about it. I just checked their site and it is still set up for sign ups for email notification. Please let me know if they are accepting preorders when you find out?! Thanks!!

Thanks, I will keep on an eye on this. If you are still heading there today, could you still let all of us know if they are taking preorders please?! Thanks again.

I plan on calling first... I'll let you know what I find out.

why do they have to bundle a freaking sports game! I hate sports games and so does everyone else in my house!! Blech!!!!!

I can tell you why... The new controller is the big innovation in this system and Wii Sports will show off the new controller probably better than any other of the launch titles.

Just called, he said they aren't taking pre-orders yet but they should probably start sometime early next week...

I suspect internet pre-orders will be available starting as early as today so I may get mine off the net somewhere, maybe amazon.

Thanks!! My plan was to go to Game Stop, when they are taking pre-orders, and preorder it there. I guess I'll have to wait and see. Thanks again!!

I just called up gamestop to find out their deal.

I got a better answer out of them... They definitely won't start taking orders in-store today.

Basically their system updates overnight with the latest information so he said to keep trying back every morning. He said he also has heard rumors that it would be Monday morning but he said call back every day just in case.

The Wii Sports put me over the edge... I'm going to pre-order it as long as I can do so without buying anything else other than Zelda and an additional controller.

I won't be terribly disappointed if I don't get it on launch day though, I have a backlog of GameCube and Xbox games I haven't gotten around to playing that'll hold me over well into next year.

Well, to quote the official annoucement they made this morning in NYC:

"MSRP: $249. One price, one config, one color: white. This simplicity allows us to maximize volume throughout the Americas. Our shipment goal worldwide is 4M consoles during the 43 days between launch and Dec 31. The Americas will receive the largest share, a continuous flow of units."
