packratfamily Posted October 25 Posted October 25 I have a question that I have been wondering about for quite some time. It’s even more relevant now, I think, with the privacy settings and tracking settings that you can block on various browsers. I only use an iPad for the Internet and 99% of our internet browsing. I never really understood how this site got the money to run the site and I am wondering if it is important to let some tracking occur or not be blocked so that the site can get the referral $ when you go to a website or online store and buy some items., especially if we go to the site directly from a Gottadeal post or link. We buy a lot from Walmart online and it is simple to allow cross-site tracking. Please let us know how we can help support Gottadeal. Chris
Brad Posted October 26 Posted October 26 GottaDEAL itself has no tracking that would be affected by browser settings. Theoretically if you click on any of the links on the site, forum or in the newsletters we send that should be enough to give us credit for the sale. The companies that manage the affiliate accounts for retailers do a good job of staying ahead of the various browser settings and blocks to ensure that clicks are still attributed to the source so you shouldn't need to change any settings to make sure we get credit. The only issue we come across is for some retailers if you have their app installed and you click on a link on GD and it opens their app, they lose that source tracking but most of the major retailers still track even in their app so it's not worth worrying about. 1
