In addition to the obvious like a new skillet or mixer, you can add water filters to help reach the total. If you're still drinking tap water, the Pur fridge dispenser works well and holds a good sized supply of water.

Is there a noticeable difference between PUR and Brita?

I dunno, maybe it's just me but half the time I can't tell the difference between tap water and brita. Our water here on Long Island starts out better than a lot of other places though.

I started with Pur so I don't know, but my brother claims Pur is better than Brita.

Tap water is usually good here, but it gets cloudy sometimes which might still be safe but is not at all appealing to drink. In summer having it filtered and cold is a plus.
