mackeeg
Starbucks coupon explodes on Internet -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Found this interesting: SEATTLE, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Starbucks discovered the hard way how quickly the Internet works when coupons e-mailed to a few employees in the southeastern United States were redeemed. Employees were encouraged to forward the coupons to relatives and friends, allowing them to get a free iced coffee or other iced beverage but only in the afternoon or evening. The recipients apparently forwarded the coupons on again and they quickly popped up in blogs and on Web sites for consumers seeking bargains, the Seattle Times reported. Starbucks pulled the plug this week with a news release saying the coupons are no longer valid, in spite of the Sept. 30 expiration date. Officials said they had been "redistributed beyond the original intent and modified beyond Starbucks control." The coupons were apparently an attempt to get people to go to Starbucks in the afternoons. Company officials blamed poor July sales on long lines in the morning caused by desperate coffee fiends seeking iced grandes. http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/view.ph...1-073758-5392r__________________
