Dell Printer Ink

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately Dell Software and Accessories coupons usually require a significant minimum purchase (e.g. $35 off $350).

Dell inkjets should be rebadged Lexmark printers.

Check your local CostCo B&M, Fry's Electronics or eBay (beware of low quality incompatible inkjet refills).

If you do a lot of printing, you really ought to buy a different printer. It'll cost you more now, but it'll save you a ton of money in the long run. I've never been able to find cheap ink for a lexmark, but most other brands you can find generics for ~$4 apiece. My mother is a system administrator for a school and has bought a few hundred generic ink tanks in the last few years and has never had an issue with them. So at a savings of ~$20 each time you have to change a B/W OR Color tank, it won't take long for a new printer to pay for itself. :)

Of course Dell would say that, they want you to buy their high-markup ink. :-) Seriously though, when you consider the amount of money you'll spend on ink over the life of the printer, it would probably be worthwhile to sell the printer and buy one with cheaper ink.

My old Lexmark cost me $50, and a set of black and white and color ink tanks cost $55-60.

Compare that to a hypothetical $100 printer from another brand that costs $10 for a set of B&W and color ink tanks. I gave away my Lexmark printer. By the time I changed both ink tanks on it 3 times ($165 on the Lexmark), I'd already made up the cost of the new printer + the same number of ink tanks ($100+$30). If I'd sold the Lexmark for $25, more profit for me. :-) Look at the big picture, your Dell printer is going to cost you big bucks in the long run.

Lexmark uses the Gilette business model - sell the razor cheap, make huge profits on the replacement blades (which you should buy on eBay by the way :))

I have to agree with mugs.

Next time I would consider buying a Canon printer, I've seen them as cheap as $40 after rebate. The best thing is the total cost of ownership, it let's me use CHEAP INKJET REFILLS. Which over time will save you $$$.

Add up the cost of ink for your Dell printer over 3 years, it will probably = a color laser printer
