group membership?

In the profile of users, it has a spot for group membership. What is this?

I always wondered this too - Brad or Ross?

I think by group it means the different user groups like "registered users", "moderators", "users with 100 posts", etc... I think you can belong to more than one group for things like special "perks", etc.... but right now we don't have any of those set up.
